I am hoping to find someone who can help me confirm my rabbits breed and help me make him as happy as possible.
I think he is a giant checkered but am not totally sure. My daughter’s boyfriend bought him at a pet store in December (Impulse buy grrr) and didn’t have much info on him. They told him it was a show rabbit because he had a 2 tattooed in his ear. I ended up falling in love and keeping him. So I now have 2 dogs,a Rottie and a yorkie/Papion mix, and a rabbit! Since then I have been reading everytnhing I can find, learning how to best care for him.
I would love to be able to talk rabbit with someone and be able to ask questions!

                  Hi Jodi

Do you have an idea of what age and weight he is? Any photos to share?
All I can really tell from your avatar pic is that he has a spotted or “broken” pattern but this is common in many breeds.

What numbers or symbols are his ear tatoos?

There is a number 2 tattooed in his ear, no idea of his age, he is the size of a small dog (lol), and I would say he is mosaic with a butterfly mask over his eyes. I will try to take better pics tonight and upload them. Thanks for responding!

Oh my goodness, such a big rabbit with such tiny ears! I can’t tell from the picture very well, but he doesn’t seem to be “full arch” (i.e. hare-like). How about unusual mix with broken pattern? The truth is, the broken gene has been introduced into a majority of rabbit breeds. So pattern alone really doesn’t tell us anything about breed. I’m trying to look at his shape, but I need a better picture.

BTW, I love the name too! Hahaha!

Here are a couple of pics of my handsome boy…. he wasn’t cooperating very well! He was more interested trying to get the camera rather than posing.

For 10 1/2 years we had a free running bunny in our house.  No cage.  We currently have two Flemish sisters, 10 months old, that also have been living cage free since we got them.  Rabbits take very well to litter box training…you don’t have to train them, they just do it naturally. We’re going at the 12 years of experience of having free ranging rabbits in our house…no cage.

I wonder if our two baby rabbits..12 pounds at 10 months of age, are pure breed Flemish rabbits. I think they have some New Zealand rabbit background. Our previous beloved rabbit was a 8 pound rabbit…someone identified her as a Belgium red rabbit.  Don’t know if that was accurate.

He looks a bit New Zealand-ish, I would say.

Im trying to recall if there are breeds that have more white skin inside the ears of if that’s just a colour genetics thing. I was hoping that might be a clue.
                                  He’s a lovely bunny, regardless!

Hello BeardKing, it would probably help if you started a new thread of your own to help ID your rabbit’s breed. However by the sound of it, she’s likely a mixed breed with lionhead and another breed.
