        Hi.

I’m due to adopt a 3 month old rabbit.

I still have a large box of Oxbow Timothy Hay and Oxbow Adult Rabbit Pellet Food from my previous rabbit, Fudge. Are these fine to feed to a 3 month old rabbit, or are they too young and require something else – something more delicate?

I assume that the hay and pellets are not too old and are still fresh. You can definitely feed the bunny the timothy hay. It might be best to get some Oxbow Essentials Young Rabbit Food pellets. That has more of the dietary needs of a young, growing rabbit. So as not to waste the Adult Rabbit Pellets, you could mix in some of those with the Young Rabbit pellets.

At 3 months of age, a rabbit can start on greens and veggies. Just go slow. Start with one green, such as romaine lettuce. Try that for a week, then add in a second green. Keep adding a different green each week. You’ll find out what your bunny likes best, and see if any of the greens don’t agree with his GI system.

            Thanks for the reply!

The hay and pellets are just a few months old (I bought it in bulk) but they still smell very fresh.

My fiance bought ‘Supreme Science Selective Junior Rabbit Food’. I’ve read on some sites that it’s best to give them as much pellets as they want – similar to the hay. Is this correct, or should I just measure out the pellets like I did for my adult rabbit?

Young rabbits, 6 months old or less, can be given unlimited pellets, but you don’t want to overdo it. Some rabbits will overeat, so you shouldn’t keep refilling the bowl if your rabbit empties it in a short time. I’m not sure what quantity of pellets would be best. Maybe you could start with 1 cup a day and see how that goes. I haven’t had any young bunnies for a long time, so I really don’t know what the best amount would be, I do know that you can overfeed them pellets, or that they may eat too many pellets in lieu of eating their hay. It is a bit confusing, since almost all of the diet guidelines state unlimited amount of pellets for young rabbits, but some go on to say that you don’t want to overfeed them either. Hopefully, someone with recent experience of young rabbits will chime in and give better advice.

hi, i am new to this site and bunny compansionship and when i got my slush (this week!) i was informed he is around 11 weeks old and to only give him pellets enough to cover his bowl, as he is quite young and he eats lots of hay as well as all of his pellets i do this twice a day.

all i have read and seen on youtube is timothy hay is the best etc so i am greatful for this post as i was concerned my baby boy needed different hay. hopefully someone comes along with the correct information

Pellets and lots of Timothy hay is excellent for an 11 week bun.
