I was wearing trainers and as I was walking my rabbit darted in front of my foot. I stepped on one of her hind legs but managed to stop myself before putting my full body weight on my foot. She immediately went in her cage and started growling and grunting at me. I went to check her and see seems to have no mobility problem but nipped me and growled at me when I touched her. The nip didn’t draw blood but was more painful than her usual nip. I gave get some papaya treats and she’s now calmed down and lets me pet her again.

These things happen. Buns do seem to get under feet. Keep a close eye on her and make sure she’s using the leg ok. Look out for signs of pain. Fingers crossed she forgives you and you’re out of her bad books soon!

Just keep an eye on her. I think I’d be tempted to bite too if a giant stepped on my leg (to a bun, we humans are of course giants). Hopefully she came out of it ok, you can perhaps get someone to help you hold her so you can feel through her hind leg and foot and toes. Can you make her hop around a little so you can see if she puts weight on the leg in question?

It’s often very difficult to detect pain in a bunny, they are expert at hiding signs of not feeling well so as not to attract predators. A bun in pain will most often be reluctant to eat, so keep an eye on appetite and poop.

They’re bunnies. She’ll forget in a day. Good Luck!

With three rabbits in my house over the last 12 years…not all three at the same time. I don’t think I’ve ever really stepped on one. I have hit them with a foot however. When I get up in the middle of the night to make my usual run to the toilet,  I swish my feet along the floor to make sure I don’t step on one.  At the end of her life, Bunny understood that I could not see her at night time so she was give me a soft growling sound when she laying on the bedroom carpet so I wouldn’t step/kick her.  My two Flemish babies are too young to understand this I think. A couple of nights ago, I inadvertently gave one a hit with my foot as I was on the way to the toilet. No problem for her though.

I think most animals can understand when you accidentally hit them walking, especially at dark.  I think the expression is “A sleeping dog understands the difference between being stepped on and being kicked.”

                Love my bunnies.
