I normally work a good 6 to 8 hours but I always come home to my baby Theodore! Yesterday I noticed he had a bit of diarrhea so immediately, I left a small amount of pellets and refilled his water before work. This past week I’ve gotten overtime but he was fine every other day until yesterday. I also gave him and unlimited amount of hay and before I left for work I gave him water and he drank part of it. When I came home from work he was more active and I saw from his water bottle he had drank a good amount and he hadn’t touched his pellets until I got home. My mom’s been feeding him alot of carrots lately and I told her not to give him any until he started feeling better but last night I caught her giving him another carrot after i got off work so I took it out immediately and had to remind her. This morning before I went to work his diarrhea was gone, he was pooping normally, of normal color, but he came to me as soon as I let him out and he peed on me and right by me. I cleaned it up but I had to go to work, I just got home and noticed he drank more water (I refilled it this morning) but he hasn’t really touched his pellets since this morning. I let him out and i checked his tail and his whole bottom was wet but no sign of diarrhea or poo sticking to his bum. I’m really worried and a vet isn’t open close by to my house right now since I just got off, but if its.not one thing it’s another and I’d like some advice or some help right now to be able to help his situation until tomorrow morning when I plan on taking him to the vet. I cleaned him up just now but I noticed he keeps cleaning his bum, and here and there he will grind his teeth for a second. When I tried to Pat his bum dry, it seemed to irritate him a bit but he’s back to drinking water. My little theodore is a Dutch bunny and almost full size. Could anyone please help??

Carrots really arnt healthy for rabbits and can cause a lot of tummy problems due to high starch that rabbits cant really digest. I would tell your mom to quit it as she could be harming your bunny pretty badly by giving him carrots every day. Instead, tell her to feed him leafy greens like kale for example as snacks

It’s the sugar content in carrots that makes them a food that should only be given in very small quantities. Consider carrots as you would fruit, since they are all high in sugar and should be limited to occasional small pieces. The sugar can cause gas and GI issues. If your bunny was grinding his teeth and not eating pellets, it sound like he may have gas or be going into GI stasis. It is good that you are taking him to the vet today. It’s also good to keep infant simethicone drops on hand, in case of gas. They are perfectly safe for rabbits.

Here is the section at Binky Bunny dealing with a healthy diet. https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/tabid/53/CategoryID/2/PID/940/Default.aspx. There are links there showing good and not so good veggies to give to your rabbit, and it talks about fruit too.

I assume that the vet will do a fecal test. I had a past rabbit that we found on the street. She was having diarrhea and kept cleaning herself. It turns out that she had worms, which was easily treated. She also had the less severe kind of coccidia, which was easily treated. It seems like your bunny may be having issues due to his diet, but hopefully the vet will figure it all out and get him some treatment if needed. You really need to stress to your mother that a rabbit has a delicate, complicated GI system, and the wrong foods or too much of them, can cause big problems.
