        Hello Everyone!!

I am adopting a 6 month old bunny from a shelter. She will be coming home in a few weeks after she is spayed. She is my first rabbit and I’m very excited to bring her home. One of the employees told me that they are unsure of her breed but they do know that she is dwarf. She looks nothing like a Netherland dwarf however. She also has blue eyes. Can anyone help me out with her ID? Thanks in advance!

There are many dwarf breeds, the term dwarf is often used as a vague term to mean that the rabbit is a small mixed breed. I’m afraid I can’t help with her breed, her markings could mean she has some dutch breed in her, but dutch markings can also occur in non dutch breed rabbits too.

“Dwarf” technically refers to a breed that has the dwarfism gene (tiny ears, smooshed face, small size, etc) but people selling rabbits will often try to label mixed breeds as dwarf rabbits because it makes them sound more desirable. I’m sure the shelter just labeled her as dwarf because she is small in size and it doesn’t look like she’s going to get much bigger.

She looks like Dutch or Dutch mix. Dutch is a smaller breed, but they are not a dwarf breed because they do not have the dwarfism gene.

^What LBJ10 said, it’s partly what I was trying to say but worded far better, lol.

                  omg gorgeous!

Congratulations!  I don’t think I could stand the waiting.

The blue eyes is due to a gene also. So she could have the vienna gene which can give dutch-like markings, blue eyes, not necessarily always both. Some might just have one white paw or a white spot on the nose. Some might just have blue eyes…Its all very confusing!
I do feel Dutch breed too though.

ETA: I fixed the link so the photo appears in your post.

Thank you for the replies everyone! Thank you Jerseygirl for fixing the photo! Her breed doesn’t matter to me. It’s just nice to have an idea of what she is. She’s adorable either way. Thanks again everyone!
