Is it ok to post about dogs crossing the rainbow bridge?

My parents’ sweet ol’ gal Kila crossed over the bridge today. She was 15 and has been declining for awhile, but we are all devastated. My poor father called me 15 minutes after it happened crying. She was the best girl.

Kona was the mama, a chocolate lab that passed a few years back. Out of her first litter (accidental) came Tank. A red lab that was the biggest and tough as nails. She was adopted as all the rest, but after a few months was returned to my step mother as “defective” because she was always getting urinary tract infections. Turns out this guy was keeping her crated 24 hrs a day and she kept getting sick. He had renamed Tank “Kila” so she became part of our family. By this time Kona had another accidental litter (she was “raped” during her first heat after the first litter – they were going to spay her after it, but oops! more puppies) so my parents now had 3 dogs. The mama Kona, Kila, and VeeVee from the second litter.

The worst part of this is that Vee is falling apart over this. They were able to put Kila down at home so Vee was there, but now she’s searching for Kila everywhere. They have never been apart before. Its bee 14 years of sisterly love. And of course my parents are a mess.

I’m surprised I’m as sad as I am as I don’t live with them anymore. Been crying all day, but Kila was the coolest dog. So smart. I always felt like she really understood when people spoke to her. She also was never satisfied with a stick. She needed to carry a whole tree limb. If she could get her jaws around it she would carry it everywhere. Even if it was 11 feet long. She was so damn strong! I can still hear her bark and see her wagging her tail.

        I’ll miss her.

Run free (((Kila))) comforting vibes (((VeeVee)))

Of course you will miss her, and its totally understandable you’ve been in tears all day. She has been a part of your life for 15 years and has held, and still holds, a special place in your heart. I hope posting here and sharing your grief with us will help. It looks and sounds like you and your parents gave her, her mum and her sister a long life filled with love and adventures

Oh dear sorry to hear this, its always difficult when someone we love passes away, someone also means an animal or pet to me, its very difficult and very sad, but Kila is still in your hearts and always will be, so they never leave, my parents got a dog before I was born, he died a long time ago and he used to come to see me when I was ill when I was a child even if I have a cold and I’m in bed I always think he’s nearby, when I go to where my family is and go for a walk I sometimes pick up the lead (Leash) so don’t worry if you hear Kila bark and see her wagging her tail, this is normal, it shows that you loved her and cared for her so very much, could you spend time with your parents and Veevee this weekend? Even if its a couple of hours and give Veevee plenty of attention and hugs if Veevee wants that?
            Beautiful pictures.
            Rest in Peace Kila

Thanks. I can’t be there, but we’ll all be ok. She will be missed, but they gave her a great gift by allowing her to go in peace at home.

I’m most worked about her sister Vee. I’m hoping this doesn’t trigger an illness. She’s 14 and the most social out of the three. Now she’s a solo girl.

I wish pets could live forever! Thanks for your kind words.

I’m so sorry MiNinoJack. Of course it’s ok to post about a beloved dog or cat or any other pet that has left this world for the Rainbow.
15 years is a great long life for a lab. What a beautiful life she got with your family. I do understand your worries about VeeVee. I so hope she’ll get over her grief, it is difficult when they’ve been together for so many years.

                Run Free, Kila.

Thank you all again for your support. Vee is finally eating again and hopefully everyone will heal sooner rather than later. Happy 4th of July!

EDIT: Happy 4th to the Americans. Sorry we were traitors to the Brits. And to you Australians, happy Monday.

I’m so very sorry for your loss It seems like Kila had such a great life with your parents. It’s always heartbreaking to lose a member of our furry family. I can’t imagine what poor VeeVee is going through, I hope she comes back around to herself soon, even though she misses her sister.
