My rabbit had somehow managed to get onto my dresser and found a dried avocado pit I had been saving for myself and had eaten part of the dried shell of the pit that was falling off. I’ve had the pit drying out for months and just brought it into my room without thinking. The pit though has a dried shell that is really brittle that my rabbit ate and it looks like he started to bite the actual pit but stopped mid bite. It had happened this morning but as of right now he is still eating his hay and pellets normally although I haven’t seen him drink water or use his litter box yet. Are there signs of poisoning I should be looking out for and should I try and find some activated carbon at a store to give him? I would take him to the vet but all of the “exotic” vets nearby have bad or no reviews with rabbits and HRS doesn’t have any vet listings for Ventura county in California. He is also being treated with Revolution for possible cheyletiella but the vet he saw never actually looked under a microscope for mites which is why I am questioning going back. But other than that he is acting normal and still goes crazy for a his favorite treat. Any help is much appreciated! And if there’s already another post I didn’t see that covers this can you link me to it?

Has it been six hours since he ate the bit of the pit? If it’s been 6 hours I’d say you’re out of the woods. Poisonings will in general not take longer to manifest themselves.
Activated charcoal can be given to a bunny but it’s not sth you should do yourself, plus it will only work as long as the poison is still in the GI canal.
Revolution is effective and bunny safe and can be given on suspicion of mites, you very often don’t catch them in a sample.

Give the rabbit lots of hay to help flush out its system, and keep a close eye on making sure that he/she is pooping and drinking water. I would recommend at least calling a vet about it, just so you can get a general idea of the severity. I hope your rabbit gets better soon!

Thank you both for replying! He is doing good! He’s eating, drinking, and using his litter regularly. I’m just glad he’s okay! If anything he seems more hungrier than before haha but he’s very much food motivated so it doesn’t surprise me

What a relief! They can eat sth they shouldn’t in a blink of an eye, and it’s so scary. Thanks for the update!

                  Glad to hear he’s okay.
