Im so torn. My bunny Ichigo has a little cuddly toy puppy he’s had since he was a baby, he sleeps with it, he keeps it in his mouth and runs around with it, he humps it relentlessly, and I think it’s his “mate” seeing as he is a single bunny. But it’s gotten SO filthy and ripped and all the stuffing has come out and its more of a health hazard now. Do I throw it away and buy a new one?? I’d feel like I’m ripping something away from him if I did, but this one is damaged beyond repair.. Advice from anyone would be nice x

Any way of saving it – maybe sewing it together a bit and then washing it gently? Not sure how rabbits take to losing toys, but the new smell and strange texture might be upsetting – he may just decide to ignore it? I know my bun is veeeery fussy about these things

Prrhaps you could buy him a new toy and attach it to the old one with bunny-safe string (sisal is safe) and let him get used to the double toy, then detach the old toy after a couple of weeks and just let him have the new toy?
The only other thing I can think of would be to sew a new cover for the toy and stuff it with the old toy. Loose threads and the stuffing sticking out is more of an issue than bacteria and dirt, bun and toy probably have the same bacteria anyway having been “bonded” for so long.
Edit: I must say this is one of the cutest bunny-“problems” I’ve ever come across It is of course a real problem. But cute!

That sounds adorable. I second bam’s idea of attaching a new toy to the old one for a time to combine the smells before remove the old toy.

You should buy it a new toy, we do not want health hazards, but keep the old cuddly toy as something special.
That is just too cute! My sister’s bun Reese just likes to rip/chew apart her toys.
