This may be an odd question, but I’m wondering if it sounds like my bunny is starting to finally like being petted. We’ve had him a little over 3 weeks and in general, he’s not been too excited about being touched… unless he’s been given yummy treats to snack on as a distraction!

This morning, I was trying to shoo him to his pen so I could go to work. He was upstairs by our bedrooms, but couldn’t get in, since we are finally getting better at keeping our doors closed!  He loves exploring places he’s not allowed to go. (Our rooms aren’t bunny proofed.) I think he also likes the cool draft that comes from below the closed doors. Anyway, since he usually won’t accept much petting, I started petting him with the thought that he’d probably run away from me and to his pen. Instead, he sat there still while I petted him for around 10 minutes. His eyes were slightly closed, his ears weren’t plastered to his back, and he didn’t seem to be hyperventilating. Could it really be that he was enjoying being petted?!?  Given his tendency to run away when he doesn’t like something, I’ve got to assume he was seriously enjoying it, but it’s so unusual and new, I want to make sure I’m not misreading any signs.

Also, as I was stroking him, he was chewing or maybe grinding his teeth. I’m not sure exactly what he was doing, but his mouth was moving and I heard a sound coming from it. Is this a normal sign of enjoyment? It seemed odd, but I’m so new to bunnies.

After a while of being petted he suddenly popped up and became the fully active, ornery self we’re so familiar with. Being a little late to work was worth it for some good bunny time

It sure sounds like he was enjoying it. And such a typical bunny thing to decide he wanted pets when you needed to be elsewhere! lol. The little noises he was making with his mouth were probably tooth purrs. Correct, a sound of enjoyment.
Was there anything different about how your hand approached to pet him? Sometimes that makes all the difference.

            Yeah, he enjoys your petting

Mine would always sit there as I pet her and would refuse to let me go if I were to stop the petting. She would occassionally click her teeth, especially if I rub her cheeks as it seems it’s her weak spot. If I were to stop petting, she would lick my hands or anything on me if she can’t react my hands, demanding for more pets! It’s cute

UNLESS! He got an “evil” trait that he would try make you be late for work. , just kidding

Tooth purrs!! I’ve never heard of those. That must be what it was. I don’t recall how my hand approached him. His side was facing me, so I assume I approached from the side, like I usually do. Maybe from the side and slightly from the back.

I think Timber has a passive-aggressive streak. “I know you want me to go to my pen, so I’m going to sit here and let you pet me!”

Just the other day, he had gotten into our bedroom and went straight to his favorite spot: under our king-sized bed where there are so many network and power cables and where he is out of reach. He hasn’t bitten the cords yet, as far as I know, but he knows that’s not where he’s supposed to be. We were running late, so it was annoying that he got in. We eventually managed to shoo him out from under the bed and he slowly made his way to the doorway, but right as we were starting to close the door, he sprinted back in! That little guy is FAST! He did this two more times!! He really can be devious

He’s done that several times when we were trying to get him into his pen, too. He’ll act like he’s behaving and going into his pen then at the last second, he’ll turn and zoom across the room. He’s small enough that he doesn’t need much of a gap to escape!

                Lol !
And who says rabbits are boring? They honestly can be so exasperating at times, but always make me laugh in the end.
Timber sounds like quite the character.
