Yesterday, I rescued an 8 week year old bunny. That I was told was a Flemish/Checkered Giant/ Californian mix. He feels like skin and bone but his fur is very soft. Also he has no trouble holding up his one ear but the other one kind of flops over to the side. He doesn’t seem to be in pain when you touch the ear, so I don’t if he is too young to hold both up with how big they are or if he has some lop in his lineup.

Also what is the best way to get a young bunny used to being picked up and human contact?

        This is Grim

He looks like a helicopter lop to me. Its natural for him to have one up and one down ear. He’s adorable!

You’re awesome for rescuing this bunny! Where did you rescue him from? Have you had a chance to bring him to see a bunny-savvy vet yet? If he’s a rescue and really skinny he may need a once over to rule out any parasites and/or other health issues.

Bonding with bunnies take time. Try sitting on the floor with him and let him check you out and you can give him a small amount of treats for him to get used to you. Just be patient, quiet and consistent. I’m sure others on here will give great advice on this too. Good luck!

Well done you! He is IDENTICAL to Zou (a Vienna Blue) at that age (though bigger if he’s only 8 weeks!)
1 up, 1 down – that’s the cute card he’s playing…. ( ) nothing to worry about if he’s not constantly shaking or scratching at it!
“Time, patience and treats” helps him to trust you, little and often.

Does he let you pick him up atall now? Zou let me pick her up whenever I wanted, and then she became a teenager…

A friend told me about the farm where I got him from. They have a bunch of Flemish and California rabbits the raise and sell the mixes as “meat rabbits” I wasn’t too impressed with the way things were setup there from people claiming to have 20+ years raising rabbits. The cage he was in was so small, not even two feet long or high. Kept on the ground with no protection from the elements and with six other rabbits about the same age as him from the size of it… His ears came close to touching the top of the cage that’s how small it was. Didn’t look they were doing anything other than letting them just eat grass. No signs of hay, pellets or anything like that.

I didn’t notice the ear problem until I got him home, not that I mind. I was just worried because I noticed some scabs along his body and a few around that left ear of his. We got a appointment set up in two weeks, the soonest the rabbit savvy vet was open.

He is eating well; I put almost a cup of pellets into his dish along with two very apple slices and two tiny carrot slices. He also ate a good part of the hay I stuck into the feeder too. Came down in the morning to his dish being almost gone and a big pile of poo in the corner and in his litter box… lol

I’ve been taking him out and letting him hop around the sofa near my roommate and I so he’ll get use to us. Still skittish around my GSD who just wants to lick and sniff him. She spends a good amount of time lying down by his cage watching him. Grim lets us pick him up and hold him but likes to try and escape from that though.

This is a picture of Zou at 3 months… smaller ears, agreably but the same nose and fur type, I think

yes yes it’s the same creature !!  LOL
