hey guys so i’ve been feeding my bunnies romaine lettuce, red leaf and green lettuce twice everyday (with different veggies added), but i recently found out that romaine lettuce has a high water content and should be fed in moderation, which got me really worried because i thought it can be a part of their everyday veggies. What do you guys suggest i do? And can you guys please share what you feed your rabbits everyday? Thanks

Romaine is just fine to feed them, it is Iceberg that needs to be avoided.

An excellent reliable resource (in addition to the one on the forum) is at: http://rabbit.org/suggested-vegetables-and-fruits-for-a-rabbit-diet/ They have both lists of safe vegetables and greens along with recommended amounts. (And the whole site is a fabulous resource.)

I agree, romaine can be fed every day. It doesn’t have a lot of nutrients though, so it’s good if you add other vegs as well.

Romaine lettuce is a great “base” to a salad for your bun. I like to throw baby spinach and parsley in with it, maybe basil if I have enough of it growing in the garden.

We buy romaine lettuce at the 99 Cent Store.  A head of romaine for 99 cents.  Good deal.  The main stream grocery stores are much more expensive.  Last Saturday we spent about $20 on veggies for our two rabbits.   This is in addition to a large amount of carrot tops we got at the farmer’s market for free. When available we get fennil tops for them at the farmer’s market.  Later the same day I spent $15 for three flakes of oat hay.  There are 8 flakes of hay in a bail.

We also buy apples and bananas for them.  They insist their bananas to be a little on the green side.  Their food is actually a little expensive.
