I’m a first time rabbit owner and I was hoping for some tips on how to give them health checks and check their bums

I’ve been cleaning their litter area twice a day, but as of yet I’ve not checked their bums. I’ve only had them for 3 days and they’re still a little wary so I’m worried to pick them up incase I scare them, but I’m also worried about fly strike! can anyone help me with how to do this?

        Thank you!

Hello and welcome to Binky Bunny! If you click on the BUNNY INFO link at the top of the page, you will find a lot of good information on the basics of bunny care, including monthly maintenance. You do need to be careful when picking up rabbits, as they can injure themselves if they get upset and start flailing around.

Are your rabbits inside? Fly strike is mostly a concern with outdoor rabbits. If your rabbits are eating plenty of hay and making normal droppings, you shouldn’t have to worry too much about fly strike, especially if you are cleaning their dirty areas twice a day. Fly strike occurs more often in a rabbit that is making soft droppings that get stuck in their fur. Also, if a rabbit is sickly in some way, that would tend to draw more flies.
