        Hi All,

My family and I are moving cross country, we are driving and it will take 3-4 days to get there. Any suggestions on how to keep Buttons calm? He is a 12 year old (in good health) Polish bunny (small in stature) and he is quite active. Also, instead of his cage, I was thinking that I could use a kennel in the car and a pet carrier for when I have to make stops (to eat & hotel stays).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You will just have to do you best, line the kennel + carrier with rolled up fleece blankies etc so he feels secure and can’t slide around in there. Keep a supply of fresh wet favourite veg like cilantro, parsley, perhaps mint, you know what he likes, so he gets fluids in him if he won’t drink while he’s in the car. Some yummy treats to keep him happy. Hay of course, in case he feels like a bit of hay. Cover the kennel on three sides so he isn’t stressed by seeing things swish past the car. Talk to him. I try to pet my buns in the car, they respond well to that.

I wish you the best possible journey. He certainly is an adorable little guy!

I think the most important thing is to make sure your rabbit is eating and drinking. Some won’t eat in a moving car. So you’ll have to stop frequently (every 3 hours or so) to keep things moving along and prevent dehydration. Make sure you put his carrier on the shady side of the car too so he doesn’t heat up too much in the sun. 12 years old… he’s gorgeous
