        Hello!

I have a 4-year-old Mini Lop named Nova (and a six-year-old mini lop Jesse). She is very healthy normally but these past few days she has been loosing fur. I don’t know if it is molting or something I should be concerned about. My room is very hot (Even with air conditioning), but to help I have two fans pointed at the buns, and Nova also has a tile, an air vent, and I sometimes put in frozen bottles. I am worried that this shedding/loss of fur isn’t normal. She is eating and drinking like normal but the fur is what is scaring me. I will be uploading pictures the first ones, with the colorful carpet, are from like Monday and the yellow blanket pictures are from about 10 min ago. As you can see she is losing more. I have looked under a shedding spot and there was nothing there. I am just worried about her. The other bun, Jesse, isn’t shedding at all. Is this just normal or could something be wrong?

Looks like a good old bunny molt to me. They can loose tons and tons of fur-I’ve even had a few that had bald patches-but as long as the skin doesn’t look irritated and they are acting normal there isn’t really anything to worry about. Make sure you keep her well brushed so she doesn’t injest too much fur.

Normally she molts in a ring around her whole body, that’s why it is throwing me off. She is acting completely normal, bossing me around and demanding papayas! I’ll just do my best to keep her brushed even though she hated being brushed.

You can try just petting her with rubber kitchen gloves on, that seems to remove some fur. I’ve been known to take a lint roller to my bunnies before.

Aggree with LEL; it looks like a normal molt. It actually looks exactly like how my Bam molts when he has a heavy molt. It’s more than likely brought on by the heat. A practical mechanism for the bunny, less so for the hoomin who has to deal with all that fluff!

I lint roll my buns. I brush them first to get all I can off, then lint roll. It takes a whole roll of gluey paper, but it is effective + sequesters the fluff so you get rid of it for good. I’d never heard about the kitchenglove method before, must try that next time my buns molt.

I will have to give the lint roller a try! Nova really hates being brushed. But she also really doesn’t enjoy being touched much, due to the home she was in before me, so I have to take it slow. But now that I know more what it is, I will do better at brushing, she is a fluffier mini lop. We (the rabbit society) had to trim her underside down because little poops were getting stuck >.< haha. I will just make sure to get all the hairs tomorrow when I giver her a good brush!

Lint rolling seems much more readily accepted than brushing, at least by my buns. My Bam is a fluffier lop too, he gets these little mats around his ears that I have to cut off and sometimes I have to cut out mats on his hind legs too.

It’s really amazing how much hair there is on a bunny. You start to pull at a tuft of that grey wool and it just keeps coming.

Mine comes out in bits like your photos…. there’s no symmetry to anything abuot her moult – she looks a tufty mess.
Try holding her nose (head) gently but firmly when you stroke her nose and the rest of her – she’ll concentrate so much on her nose being held, that they forget about the rest of them being touched… (or else mine does)

That is clever, Vienna! If you cover a buns eyes/face the bun as a rule becomes less skittish.

I also saw an RSPCA prog the other day where they had to catch an incredibly afraid and skittish dog which had been trapped, and the inspector threw an open towel over it’s head gently from a distance, which instantly made it calm down…. clever !

So, I bought a cat slicker brush and Nova seems okay with that, but I also lint roll her and she hates that. She starts digging and biting at the mat that I have her on, but at least I am getting all of the hair! Her shedding has taken on the ring form again so it all looks normal again!

Great to hear! Exept that she hates the lint-roller, of course. Mine don’t mind being lint-rolled but they hate the slicker =D
But it can’t be helped, the important thing is to get it off so they don’t get too much hair in their tummy.
