My rabbit has had this strange fit of… I-don’t-know-what for a while now. I wish I could catch it on video but I’m never quick enough with my phone. So hopefully someone understands what I’m saying with this admittedly vague description (I’m sorry!). It sounds like, as what I could best relate it to, loud honking in a consistent rhythm. “Vvvft. Vvvft. Vvvft.” I’ve tried searching rabbit videos of sneezing, wheezing, hiccups, snoring – whatever I could think it’d be, but nothing really matches. Usually the sounds last about 10 seconds, happens usually once or twice a week. He’s commonly lying in this cage. In every other regard, he’s fine. He eats his portions, he’s just as active, no changes in behavior. I have no outward reason to believe he’s sick, and I honestly can’t eat a hefty vet bill unless I had a solid cause (I just lost my job and making rent is a real challenge). Does anyone understand what I might be taking about? Is it something normal or do I need to address it immediately? Any guidance would be much appreciated!

My guess is it is probably snoring, since he is lying down when it happens. Remember, they can doze with their eyes open. Not every rabbit snore will sound the same. A lot depends on their face shape. Ive never been able to get it properly on video either.
There is another sound they’ll make which I describe as a “Mm Mm Mm” sound, sort of like a hum or buzz. But they tend to do that when hopping around, though, I have heard one of mine do it while lying/sitting. Sometimes its hormonal. sometimes it’s just contentment.

Sorry to hear about the job! Hopefully circumstances improve for you soon.

Well that definitely puts my mind at ease…  I’ve come to agree that it is probably snoring. Nothing else is out of the ordinary with him. I’ve started looking out for wheezing or nose discharge, and he’s been just fine. Thank you Jerseygirl! Sometimes it’s just good to hear that you’re overreacting lol!

My little Lancelot snores his tiny lop face off! He snores while sleeping lying, and sleeping sitting! Once he is awake, he squeaks while he eats. When he is exited, he buzzes.
