        Hi,

My rabbit Stewie is almost 1 year old. He doesn’t have severe behavioural issues but in the past has had a phase of endless digging, peeing in random corners of my room and pooping a ridiculous amount outside of his litter bin. I am thinking it might be a good idea to neuter him to help resolve these minor issues.

We live in Toronto and I am looking for an affordable clinic. So far, the two most affordable quotes I have are from Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph ($150 for everything + cost of take home meds) and Greenwood Animal Hospital in Toronto (~$400 for everything including the pre-surgery exam). I trust Dr. Munn at Greenwood as he has helped cure my rabbit of e-cuniculi but am looking for something more affordable.

Does anyone have experience with the Ontario Vet College? They are listed on rabbitrescue.ca as rabbit savvy. Also, is it wise to take my bunny in an hour long car ride before a big surgery?

I don’t have any personal experience with the Ontario Veterinary College, but my local humane society says that they are great with rabbits. Her exact words were that they are “the wizard of oz for rabbit care”. For the car ride, it depends on your rabbit. Is he very stressed out by car rides? I think it would probably be fine either way. For my girl (who is in another province with family), I will be driving 40-50 minutes before her surgery since my family members live in the countryside and the vets are in the city. An hour isn’t too bad, in my opinion.

My rabbits’ vet (and cat’s vet) were trained there. I would trust them!

That’s a bargain for a neutering in ON.

My bun just got spayed there, it was a breeze, she is home healthy and happy. She wasn’t eating very much when she was there so they gave her critical care, but she came home and settled in and was back to her normal self in a couple days. I had no problems and the staff was great when I called to check up on her and gave me great advice once I brought her home. She loved her take home meds and thought they tasted like candy so there was no problems there!
