Hey guys, I accidentally bought a big bag of oxbow essential adult rabbit food instead of the oxbow essential young rabbit food…… I haven’t open it yet. is it ok to leave it there?

how much pellet should I feed my rabbit?  ( lionhead x dwarf) ( around 1-2 months old)

The difference between the adult and the young adult pellets is that the adult uses timothy hay instead of alfalfa hay. Yes, you can feed it to your young buns. I’d just supplement it with some alfalfa hay.

You can free choice. Give them unlimited pellets till they get around 4-5 months old.

The adult pellets can be fed to your young bunny, however it’s not wise to change the diet very suddenly. So if you have some of the young rabbit pellets left still, mix a few in with that for a week, rather than just giving the adult food straight out which could cause a stomach upset.

In regards to amount, unlimited pellets is usually recommended for baby bunnies, that being said if your rabbit is only gorging on pellets and not eating hay, you will need to restrict the amount a little, say maybe 1 cup daily (I’m not sure how much a baby would go through in a day).

TY for your advices guys. I went and bought some young adult food since I only have timothy hay. for now I feed him 1/4 of pellets daily ( 1/8 in the morning and 1/8 in the evening) Yes I know you supposed to give unlimited pellet however.  I chose  restrict on pellet because ( the calcium level is way to high, pellet is litterally carbs for rabbit, and thirdly I want him to  eat some hay that’s good for his digestive system). I also introduce herbs, veggie, and fresh grass that I grow myself  ( in case he wont eat hay). I hope it’s not too early to feed veggie and herbs. I also give him the oxbow natural immune system booster tablet not everyday of course.

so far his poops are healthy, he drinks water, and chew his toys. so I believed that’s a good sign

1/4 cup should be fine for any small to medium sized rabbit kitten. It’s what I gave Bandit from about 12 weeks on. Leafy greens can be introduced young, however if their mother wasn’t fed any and if they didn’t pick at the ones she was fed, it is more likely to cause stomach upset while still young. If you start to see mushy poops then you may have to back off feeding the greens and wait another few weeks before trying to introduce them. Bandit was sensitive to greens early on and I think I had to wait until about 6 months before he started to tolerate them. If there’s no issue, you should be fine just to slowly increase the amount.
