                 Hi, everybunny!

I have a nine month old (spayed) Holland lop named Luna. She doesn’t play with any toys I give her (most of them are homemade because I can’t afford store-bought toys on my own.) and she always seems bored. Anyone have any ideas for cheap homemade toys that I can give Luna to keep her busy while she is in her cage?

                                        Thank you!

                                                 <3 Luna the Lop

Have you tried to take her out in the garden/yard? Or on the leash and go for a little walk? Some rabbits just don’t like to play with toys. Maybe try to put hay or treats in the toys, so she gets motivated to play. Hope this helped a bit

            Hey,

I’ll tell you what my bunnies enjoy

mine are only 10 weeks old, so they might still be a litlle more adventurous as yours but they went absolutely crazy about it.

I made them a litlle willow hut myself. I left some of the leaves on the branches and it immediately drew their attention. they loved to climb on top of the hut, just sit inside of the hut and they loved chewing on it so much that it got completely destroyed in 1 week time.

So I made them a new willow toy, this time it’s a tunnel, they love it. they can run through, just relax a bit inside of it and climb on top, offc. because it’s a tunnel so it rolls away a litlle when they jump on top of it so that gives them some extra fun trying to stay on top, or just messing with the other one when she is sitting there. They have had this tunnel for about 4 days now and they already chewed a hole in the side big enough for them to squeeze trough.

Even more fun: I like shoving some of their favorit foods in between the branches so they can search for it and need to make some effort to get it.

All I used for these toys are some weeping willow branches, some creativity and quite some patience. I figured it out for myself how to make it, but I’m pretty sure you can find something on the internet aswell.

It’s quite a lot of work and my bunnies really destroy them so fast. but watching them play with it makes it all worth the effort

If you’d  like I can explain you how I made mine.

Go on Pinterest and search “DIY Rabbit Toys”. Tons of great, cheap ideas.

I have a picky rabbit too, who is 5 months old who is a picky chewer, but likes apple sticks and chewing on untreated pieces of wood. If you check craft stores, or depending on what country you live in, you can find things cheap enough. Check out thrift stores/charity shops for some idea for toys. You can make a lot of toys with cardboard and other things, look up things on pinterest or youtube. Hope this helps.

If you get paper in the mail from packages, you can put some hay in there and tie it up. Rabbits will generally like to chew it, toss it around, dig at it. Since it’s just paper and hay, it’s rabbit-safe. You can also use soy-based newspaper.
