        Hi all,

My rabbit Penelope has developed this strange circle of different colored fur on her back. I’m curious if she’s developed some kind of skin issue or if it’s just typical coloration?

How old is she? Some rabbits change colour a bit as they age and go through molts, and sometimes during molting they end up with strange patterns of darker and lighter fur as it grows in. Is the skin in the area red or flaky at all? Are you able to take a picture and post it on here? There could be a reason for the change, maybe mites or a fungal infection. Sometimes even bruising on the skin can cause fur colour to change I believe. But it may just be a molt pattern as well if she’s shedding at the moment.

Has she been shedding a lot lately? Every season rabbits molt and grow in new fur. This can bring in new colors or patterns like Azerane said.
For instance Missy was almost all blue but not she has random white hairs everywhere and Luna was mostly white but now she has lots of grey spots!

Whenever my mixed color rabbits go through a molt, i see some pretty strange fur patterns. So that’s likely what’s going on

She is molting and only six months old so that could very well account for the color change. Here is a photo of the fur pattern.
