My two bunnies are sort of litter trained. They have always been pretty good at always using the two litter boxes I have around my room. However, they never stay consistent with pooping in the box? is that normal?
They always pee in the litter box but I always see poops inside and outside the litter box. There’s not like ALOT but there is a good amount and it makes me wonder if I could ever fix this issue?
I always pick up the poop and put it back in the box, but they still poop outside the litter box.
I had them spayed so it can’t be hormonal issues could it??….

If only spayed recently, then yes, could still be hormonal. Having said that, it’s not unusal to have some poop out of the box…
Are they bonded or living side by side?
Where do you put their hay? In the litterbox?

I had one spayed almost a month ago and the other almost 2 weeks ago, but even before they hit hormonal age, they never stayed consistent with the pooping in litter box..
They are a bonded pair and live in the same “home” aka big DYI cage I made, but have full run of my room. I made sure to increase the area in which they roam slowly to avoid them peeing everywhere and messing up their litter training… but looks like they still poop everywhere lol.
I put their hay right in front of the litter box if that makes sense. I have two hay racks and two oversized litter box so I hang the hay racks in such a way that they could eat it only if they hop into their litter boxes and stay in there.

That sound just right for the hay.

I’m guessing this is due to their age and still having some hormones in their system. That said, my bonded pairs leave poo’s around also..and they were desexed yonks ago. It’s mostly the girls that do it. Their territorial nature I suspect. That’s not true of all girl bunnies though. I have a friend whos bun was a neat freak as a single girl. When she was bonded to a male, he wasn’t as great with the habits and she whipped him into shape! A few years on, there has been a regression, but I think that is mostly due to changes to their living environment.
