Hello everybun, my sisters rabbit Mac is suffering from stasis and my family and I are unable to take him to the vet. My family and I have had many health issues occur, as I just got out of the hospital from having surgery so taking him to the vet I don’t know if my mom would even allow. My sister and I are already mourning because we know what is going to happen, I know this is a dumb question but is there anyway we could make him more comfortable before he passes? I’ve been researching remedies all day, does this all make me a bad bunny parent? We love our rabbits very much and we are able to buy them the proper foods and veggies and such (things needed for proper care.) We are unsure of how this occurred, any ideas? We are both really upset about what is happening, any advice would be appreciated. Thank you all for your help.

Zeppelin Bunny, I understand your situation It’s not your fault that you don’t really have the option to take him to the vet. I would recommend asking your mom to take him to the vet. As I understand, it causes a painful, quick death. If she’s unconvinced, have her read this article: http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/ileus.html. If you still can’t do it, give him anything he seems to want, like some healthy treats (Binky Bunny’s apple and honey treats are amazing!), extra veggies, comfortable housing, maybe even let him sleep in your sister’s room with her. Pain meds for bunnies could relieve pain and stress. I’ll read some more and hopefully find some better information and tips tomorrow. Good luck with your situation and I hope he lives.

Rabbits can survive stasis with home treatment. Tummy rubs, simethicone, etc. Search for other threads on Binky Bunny and online. Your rabbit isn’t dead yet and still may survive. You need to make sure to keep its temperature up (I believe 100-103 F) and you can force feed water, critical care and/or mashed pellets.

Don’t give up hope yet. Keep asking to take to the vet and try to help your bunny through.

My rabbit had a bout of stasis once when I didn’t have a vehicle so I couldn’t being her to the vets. I massaged her stomach and syringe fed her water and baby food, and snuggled with her on my bed. It was scary, but she pulled through. It’s important to make sure Mac is eating and drinking, please keep the gut moving/active or chances are he will pass. Good luck and keep us updated.
