…That shed so much! Ive had dogs, cats, rabbits, and other animals before that shed atleast once a year. My Bombur is a 1.5 pound Netherland Dwarf, and holy cow does that little boy shed! We are on a schedule of brushing him twice a day for roughly an hour at a time. He really hates being brushed, but he will tolerate it for a little while. He has shed about two tennis balls worth of fur and it only started about three days ago, and, on top of that, only a small patch of his fur is actually done shedding   Do your bunnies shed as much or more? How often do you brush them?

Lol. I was just thinking something similar today. I noticed Timbu had a new shedding line and some areas where he’s starting to lose the guard hairs. Beginning of a molt. Again!
I thought to myself, if any one asks how often they molt, I’m just gonna say it…IT NEVER REALLY STOPS!!!

So true lol! Bombur seems to go through his shed every season, but this is the worst ive seen it (we havent had him a full year yet) so far! I would have thought our mini rex or dutch would shed more, but holy cow Bombur has them both beat out. Together they have shed maybe one tennis ball size of fur! Im going to try to brush him again before bed time since hes scratching so much, i know its bothering him

Maybe he has some wool breed in him? Or is he pure nethie? idk. There’s no rhyme or reason to shedding really.

Every season is about right. You’ll read sometimes “rabbits shed 3-4 times a year”. I’ve joked on here before about the 4 times a year.

I do think some foods can trigger molting though. Don’t want to test that theory though! lol

We think hes a pure nethie. I cant imagine what else he would be mixed with, aside from many a lion head given his long fur. But his summer coat is so short and thin. His winder coat is almost 2 inches long and is summer coat is less than an inch long. Its a crazy difference lol

I have a 9 pound French Angora. I get GIANT piles of fur, at least once or twice the size of her actual body. This happens about every 3-4 months. But there’s always the constant “trickle” of fur coming off of her. It can be quite time consuming to keep on top of it!

About 1/3rd of the way done here He is starting to scratch so much in one spot on his back that he has a small bald spot. Its not a normal molt spot, it looks like he tore it out from scratching and biting the area. Should i be worried about it, or just let it go?

When Zou has little tufts poking out I used to think that they were already disengaged from her skin and ready to be pulled out, to help them on their way… but I’ve found she doesn’t like that anymore, like it hurts. She’ll be eating and I’ll subtly be stroking her bum (def NO brush!) and all is going hunkydory, and then i’ll gently pull out a sticky outy tuft and she’ll almost binky around…. so I’m guessing the tuft is NOT 100% off her skin.

                        I won’t do it anymore….. LOL

Vienna, you have more willpower than me! I cannot resist those tufts.

Aww, Bombur most certainly looks like a nethie. CUTIE!
Re the spot, is it definitely somewhere he can reach or could one of his buddies be overgrooming that spot?

Lol, Vienna! Bombur gets those tufts all over, but actually likes when i pull them out! I just have to do it slowly or he shoots glares at me and starts scratching

Thank you Jerseygirl The spot on his back is a spot he can reach. Its to his mid/high left above his thigh and almost reaching the top of his back. He hasnt touched it since yesterday though, when i brushed the loose fur out around it. That area is full of loose tufts and still hanging on tufts, so i brush there rather than pick, but i know thats his itchiest area too

Jersey – if I thought I wasn’t hurting her then I’d get them all out…!! Her bottom looks like an unloved hobo ! …. but the speed (and almost aggressiveness (? word!! lol) at which she turns around, I’m really not sure…
                              aggressivity….? aggressionism….? :\

Agreed. I have a horse and come Spring there is mega hair….like wheelbarrows full. But for the size of a bunny, it’s truly amazing how much fur can come off them. When Bindi is shedding, I’m just amazed at the pile when I’m finished grooming him.
