        Hello everybun!

My bunny is about 5 months old and right now he has unlimited access to hay and pellets. He mostly eats pellets and shows more interest in eating the paper bedding than hay.

I removed his pellets one time and he started eating more hay.I hesitate to do that again because he is young and a bit skinny. I put hay in the litter box. Maybe he refuses to eat it because it is polluted with him pee? Any input is appreciated.

          Hey Melon!
My first bun used to be the same way. Try putting pineapple juice in his hay and letting it dry, then giving it to him.
Are you using alfalfa hay? It’s sweeter and easier to eat (plus six months old and below bunnies should have it)
You could mix your pellets with your hay, so he might end up eating the hay to make finding the pellets easier.
What kind of pellets do you use? If it’s something like VitaSmart VitaCraft fortified nutritional diet (something along the lines of that) my old bun enjoyed that much more than his hay. Instead, try all pellets like Oxbow. (unless you already do that)
Let me know how it’s going and I’ll think of some other ideas. Good luck!

Bunnies should only get about 1/4th to 1/8th cup of pellets per 6 pounds of rabbit. Thats a very small amount. The reason being is that rabbits need hay as the majority of their diet. They need it to keep their GI track going smoothly and healthily, and they need it to grind down their teeth so they dont end up with spurrs or overgrown teeth. A healthy rabbits diet should be 80% thick cut hay, 10% veggies, 8% pellets, and 2% treats
