Quozl had her vaccinations a week ago, and my vet said not to let her outside for 2-3weeks. She isn’t fussed with timothy hay and I’ve ordered some other kinds – but my vet was really enthusiastic about getting her to eat grass… Quozl’s grass will be coming from an organic vegetable farm, no pesticides or man-made nasties and pretty minimal on the bugs and natural nasties too because the land is permacultured… There are no wild rabbits on the farm land, we don’t have mosquitoes, there are ticks but only in select areas of long grass that are far from where I’ll be harvesting the grass from.

But could any tiny insects in the grass infect her? Can I feed her grass cut from the farm now, or do I have to wait till another week or two as passed?

Well I feed my buns fresh grass from our garden, after I washed it well, and they never had any problems with it. (But they eat it on their own too when they are out)
They are vaccinated regularly but vet never told me to keep them from the garden for some time after that, and he knows they have their garden for zoomies.
However I have to mention that they are also protected from flee on monthly basis. And that there are no other animals in their relem passing through.

I think that it should be fine as long it’s the grass you know of (you are sure it’s bunny safe) and from controlled area.

And as always the most safe answer you can always get from your vet.

I’d wait another week just to be safe. The risk is probably low, but a vaccination challenges the immune-system, which is exactly what it’s supposed to do, and the body is now in the process of making anti-bodies against the diseases you vaccinated against, and it’s imo safer to not introduce new food just now. It would be so crazy tragic if sth happened. Although I do see how you must be eager to start giving her fresh grass!

Fresh grass is very good for buns, but as with all other new food items, you need to start slow. She’ll probably just love the grass, but don’t let her eat all she wants for starters, it would be very bad for her tummy.

If you have plenty of grass available to you you could take some in and dry it f ex spread out on newspaper and bag it and use it as a treat or hay-topper during winter.

              Thank you both!
