Hey everyone I have had a few buddies over the last 20 years so I feel like I should know a lot butt here’s the deal. I have a little baby girl a beautiful crazy purebred Holland Lop. She’s a year-and-a-half-old and she’s been fixed for 6 months now. I understand they are born diggers but just lately out of the Clear Blue Sky she goes into her litter box which is separate from her cage it’s actually just a cat litter box with paper bedding. And her new thing which I thought might be attributed to some kind of spring fever or maybe even a false pregnancy is digging in the right-hand corner as loud as possible for as long as I let her go hours days LOL. The only time. Is if she hopped out of the litter box only to dip her head in and slowly remove each piece of paper bedding one by one which is adorable but extremely annoying. The crazy part is she’s not digging anywhere around the house on the carpet at all she has a thousand toys cardboard everything all over the place the entire apartment is hers she binkies and does bunny 500 she’s very very very happy and very spoiled but the only time she stops this insane digging as if I physically pick her out of the box or give her squirt with the water bottle. Any ideas why she could be doing this? Like I said she has her own carpet squares other things to do I tried to move the litter box that did not do a thing sometimes she also digs in her regular cage when she goes to eat but it’s usually this damn box. Sorry so long thanks for any help advice incentive excetera excetera

          Three bunnies over 12 years,

All of our domestic bunnies are European rabbits.  They are diggers. They have an instinctive drive to dig.  My last rabbit, Bunny, even as she approached 11 1/2 years as a house rabbit, would still try to dig a bunny hole in the carpet at a secluded place.  My two Flemish rabbits have demonstrated some half hearted digging instincts in the house.

There are litter box screens you can get so that she doesn’t dig her litter, but you’ll need to provide some place for her to dig. Digging is normal, so you’ll just need to provide her safe places to do it. Understandably you don’t want her digging her litter, so a screen would help. I believe they sell them here on binky bunny.

Do you think moving her litter box MIGHT make any difference? Now it’s progressed to”violent” carpet pulling ? . even though she fixed… spring heat? Just regular bunny rage?

You could maybe try a sisal board? I make my own from a banker box lid. Just pierce a few holes in the cardboard and tie the sisal through. You can buy them too though. Something like this http://www.manorpethousing.co.uk/sisal-board
