Hi, my rabbit thumper has been peeing everywhere! When I first got him, he was doing pretty well with his litter box training and didn’t pee anywhere else. But now, he’s peeing on the carpet, on his hidey-houses, and sometimes jumping on my bed and peeing there! Is it just territorial or does he not like his litter box? Or did he just forget how to use it?

          Two questions:
          How old is he?
          And is he neutered yet?

A young male who is reaching bunny puberty is going to suddenly start displaying hormonal behaviors. This includes territorial marking.

            Hi,
Thumper is 1 1/2 years old and is neutered. And here’s an update: now he AND my other rabbit have been doing this! She is 1 year old and is spayed. She has been doing this for the past week. She is doing this some times in her litter box but sometimes outside her house too. The thing I don’t understand is that they both were pretty good at their potty skills before, but have suddenly seemed to use the bathroom elsewhere..

              Are they bonded buns?

If they are both doing it, it almost seems territorial. Has there been any changes in the house? Any new pets or smells?

I will also add that you might want your vet to rule out UTI – it’s unlikely that both buns should get one at the same time, but since most UTIs are bacterial, it might explain the shared loss of litter habits.

Yes, they were both bonded together about 2 months ago. There has been no changes or no new pets or smells. But last week, since i was on vacation with my family, we put the bunnies in rabbit boarding for 1 week. I’m not sure if that’s the problem since it was their first time being boarded. They might have been confused with the new litter box situation there.

Also, both of the bunnies have normal colored urine and don’t seem to show any signs of pain. They’re acting completely normal except for the litter box problem so it may not have to do with a serious medical situation

Hmm… maybe you could do a refresher course for in bonding and potty training respectively?

Ok, I’ll try that. Thanks for the advice!
