        Hello.

I apologise if this is in the wrong section.

I have a 1y 11mo old dwarf lionhead male who was neutered about 2-3 months ago. Last week he got into a pretty nasty fight with his brother and I have them separated now. Today while I was grooming him I noticed he had a scab on his back. I will be taking him to the vet next week for a professional assessment, but I was hoping someone here on BB could shi b e some light.

I’m naturally a worry wort and everything that’s popped up on Google is nothing short of terrifying.

Anyone seen anything similar? There are no other scabs, his temp is fine, he is eating, playing, and his poop is normal. He doesn’t have excess eye boogers or an unusually wet nose.

I can’t see your photo. Here are instructions on how to insert a pic to your post: pictorial

As for scabbing, I’ve seen a few. I have two boys that I’ve tried to bond, but I finally gave up due to fighting. Both boys got scabs onmultiple occasions on their backs, both boys healed just fine. But there is a possibility of infection in a bite-wound, so you should keep an eye, be observant of any swelling around or “downstream” on the body as seen from the wound-site. The scab should be dry, there should not be seepage, no foul smell, excessive redness etc.

If it’s just a dry scab like we get when we scrape our knees f ex, don’t do anything with it. It can take a few weeks for the crust to fall off, but that’s normal.

If you think it needs something, original Neosporin (no pain reliever) is OK to use. I agree with Bam though, it should be fine. Just watch for oozing, redness, swelling, etc.

I can see your picture now! It looks like sth that can heal on it’s own. Plain neosporin as LBJ says can be used as a precaution if you like, but it looks like it’s healing fine. I’d just leave it alone and check on it every day.

Thank you so much! I’m was pretty terrified. I’ll keep an eye on him.
