There are three big rules in my house. 1. Do NOT leave any unprotected cords anywhere on the floor. I have plenty of cord protectors if you NEED to use a cord (I live in an old house that doesn’t have many outlets). 2. Do NOT under any circumstances let either rabbit out when I am not home. 3. Do NOT attempt to walk my dogs.

Two of those rules were broken today while I was at work. I let a friend stay at my house while I was at work to do some of her work on my computer. I got a call at around 3pm from a freaked out friend telling me Moonshine had been electrocuted. I of course panic and rush home. When I get home there is an extension cord across my living room floor with several naked spots. I look for Moonshine and he is in a corner but when he hears me call his name he runs over. I asked her why she thought he had been shocked. She says that she wasn’t paying attention and the power in the living room went off and Moonshine jumped really high away from the cord before running off. When she tried to get to him he would run off (this isn’t really abnormal as he doesn’t really like her that much).

I scooped him up and checked him for burns and anything weird. I didn’t find anything and he was acting normal rushing around me as I walked. So I called in to work and told them I wouldn’t be back today. I threw the cord in the trash and kindly kicked my friend out. I called the vet to see if I could get him in and told them what happened. The vet told me to just keep an eye on him and to see if he is able to eat. He ate a grape and some parsley. He won’t eat pellets but that isn’t anything new since he will only eat his pellets in the morning and before I go to bed. At first he was acting a little odd and freaking out at everything. But that lasted about 10 minutes before he was back to normal.

He is eating, drinking water, pooping, doing zoomies, annoying Gypsy and chasing my cat like always.

I don’t know what possessed her to let him out in the first place. I even reminded her not to let either rabbit out or try to walk my dogs. I didn’t even know she had brought an extension cord!

Rabbits are going to be the death of me. As of right now he is perfectly normal but I am literally following him around making sure he is okay.

Him and Gypsy have a check-up appointment in a few days so I will probably insist on them checking him out more thoroughly.

It was scary. I took him to the vet this morning to be on the safe side. But he is perfectly fine thankfully.

Good to hear it all worked out! I’ve had a few scares when Moxie has escaped her cage and bit a live wire. (I heard her escape and ran up just in time) It’s super scary!

Yeah Moonshine stop trying to scare me half to death!

It is scary. My cat got ahold of a wire at a pet sitters house when I was out of town and ended up with his nose and front paws burned.

But luckily the two wire buddies are still alive.

Jeez, my heart stopped when I saw this thread title! o_o I am so glad Moonshine is okay.
Shame on your friend! Who on earth does something like that, allow a friend’s pet to swan around when you’re not home? So glad it didn’t end as badly as it could have though. ((((Hugs))))

I asked why she let him out and she said “He seemed bored”. Moonshine always seems bored! That doesn’t mean you let him out all willy-nilly. Safe to say she will no longer be allowed at my house alone.

But he is his nosey little self and is perfectly fine. Too bad it didn’t deter his love of all things cord like.
