My uncle raises rabbits and I notice a few of them have pretty bad ear mites. (crusties etc) It really breaks my heart to see this and I would like to pay to treat them if I can, he does not want to pay to have them treated. I am not sure of the process…he lives out of town so I can not go there for extended treatments and if it is too expensive I can not afford to treat them. (I have my own buns that I take care of)

If it is too much to treat them..I think I will have to call for animal cruelty. I would hate to do that on my Uncle, but I am getting to the point where I almost can not sleep at night.

I actually just been through this. Revolution is the treatment for mites, but it requires a vet prescription, or you can ask your local vet. It is around $40-$50 for 3 doses (1 month per dose) online. It would be different if you were to directly get it from the vet.

The vet where I buy Revolution charges $26 per ampule. There was more than enough in there to treat my two buns. I know Roberta is familiar with this, where you purchase the kind for dogs (higher concentration) and use it to treat multiple buns. The trick is getting the dosage right because you would use a smaller amount for each bun. There used to be a table that helped with determining the dosage. Does anyone know where it is?

              Here’s the chart.

Revolution would be preferable and is really effective.

It depend on if you can get it. Otherwise, ivermectin could be used for a herd of rabbits. Probably found at farm supply stores. Some breeds are sensitive to it though, so use with caution.

Here’s a link to some info about ear mites. It has a warning about distressing images.

Meant to add, that link above has ivermectin dosage. It’s higher for ear mite then fur mite. Again, there are risks with ivermectin to be aware of.

Also, Revolution is known as Stronghold in the UK. I think it’s available OTC there. It is here in Australia (known as Revolution here).

Is Advantage available OTC in the US? You might be able to find a suitable moxidectin product in farm supply store also. I don’t know if there are cautions around this anti-parasitic drug or not.

How does the treatment work? Is it daily?

No, you apply Revolution once, wait a few weeks and then retreat if necessary. It’s a topical “flea” treatment.

I suppose I should put the disclaimer in here too, just in case this shows up on a Google search and someone else is reading this thread. Never ever use Frontline on rabbits.
