My family recently bought a bunny, one that the shopkeeper claims doesn’t grow, I believe it is a Britannia petite. Anyhow, the bunny on the first two days home seemed to be on alert and what not, looking at its surroundings, moving around, eating, etc. However, currently the bunny has been quiet inactive. It only moves only to find a place to stay in and in its cage only stay in one corner. It doesn’t seem to want to eat the alfalfa, celery or spinach that we’ve offered it and hasn’t pooped in quiet some time now. We are very confused as to what is going on and really do want the best for our bunny. On a side note: we are also new bunny caretakers, this is our first bunny and really do just want the best for it, we have put in research into how to care for a bunny and done all that it has told us to do and avoided all that it told us not to. Thanks to anyone in advanced!

This was a double thread. Here’s your other post:

Subject: New Bunny Not Very Active

So, my and my family recently bought a bunny and for the first two days it seemed pretty active, or better said on alert. It was looking around at it’s environment and basically figuring out the new home. It also ate during the two days, it only ate celery and alfalfa. However, since today the bunny has been quiet inactive and only ran or moved around to try and find a spot to relax or stay in. It also hasn’t pooped since the morning, I’d say since 7:00 in the morning was the last time. It hasn’t eaten as well however it has been drinking water and it has peed. My family is new to caring for rabbits so we don’t know whats going on. I am pretty sure this is a American Polish Bunny, brown and weighs about 1.2 pounds. If anybody could tell us what might be wrong we would be truly grateful. If anything, I will take the bunny to a vet to see if they can figure this out.

It sounds like the onset of GI Stasis, which can have many causes, including stress. If your rabbit hasn’t peed or pooped for 12+ hours, it’s considered an emergency and you will need to see a rabbit savvy vet.

I would go to your nearest exotic vet (a vet who specializes in rabbits) and have them take a look at your bun

Yes.  The little buggers need to have a continuous poop and pee output.  In some ways rabbits are very robust and hardy animals. But when it comes to their gastro intestinal system, they are very fragile.  If their peeing/pooping isn’t correct, you need a  vet introvention.
