        Is it normal for a bunny to sneeze? My bunny just started about a couple weeks ago.

        He is eating normal and is playful. I observed him sneezing when he is eating, lounging, and sometimes playing. I think it has to do with his shedding — maybe he is sneezing out his hair?

          Occasional sneezing is normal – discharge is not. I recently took my bun in for sneezing and my vet found no infection and told me that as long as there is no discharge (snot) and he is eating and pooping normally and seems happy and relaxed then most likely the sneezing is due to dust or fur.

          Do your best to groom your bunny and vacuum often. I found that if I changed the towels in my bunny’s cage more often (which removed more fur that he was shedding) his sneezing decreased.

          Hay can be dusty sometimes and cause bunnies to sneeze also.

          If you’re still concerned you can always ask your vet or bring your bunny in to rule out any infections.

            I did notice that his nose is wet sometimes. I wonder if it is from drinking water since he drinks from a bowl.

            Will clean the floor and closely monitor.

              I would consider a vet visit if it continues. He could have allergies (its uncommon but not impossible in rabbits). Knowing what causes him to sneeze might could be useful to make sure it doesnt get worse

                Olly does it a lot, he has allergies, hay dust is terrible and sawdust, so he has blankets in his cage and hay cookies.

                  @Pinky

                  Yea, my little Badger has bad allergies too. His act up around spring and fall/winter. Blankets make it worse for him though, since they trap in the dust, so hes stuck with the carpet during free roam and coroplast in the cage. I also have to vacuum the living room and wipe down the cage atleast once a day to help him out too. Hes got a bad immune system which doesnt help either. Hes just my disabled baby, and i love him

                    Daisy definitely has allergies! Had the windows open all day today and had her outside for awhile and the poor thing has been sneezing all day. Finally had to close the house up so that the both of us would stop sneezing. It seems like we have the same allergies!
                    She has occasionally sneezed outside of allergy season though. As long as your bunny’s nose isn’t running and he’s behaving normally I’m sure he is fine

                      I don’t think its an allergy. Rabbits have a bacteria in their lungs all their life. It’s only when they get old, and their immune system gets weak, that this bacteria causes problems.  They start sneezing and coughing.  Bunny was prescribed Azithromycin ,  We bave her this for several weeks and her sneezing stopped. It has a sweet orange like flavor so the bunns will get used to being given it.

                        Google rabbit sneezing. It’s not an allergy. It’s a bacteria.

                          It’s normal for rabbits to sneeze sometimes bc of their respiratory system. Do a thorough cleaning of the cage, blankets, food dishes. Vacuum. And make sure to groom every few days, especially if he is shedding a lot. I have a mini rex so he sheds pretty bad a few times a year and will sneeze more the longer I go between brushes and cleaning.
