        Hello Everybun,

My rabbit makes a small “hovering” sound when I bring him food or when he is circling my feet.

Is he happy and excited? Or is he frustrated and demanding attention?

He is under 5 months and has not been neutered yet. Does this have to do with sexual maturity?

        Thank you.

          Hi Melon, welcome.

“hovering”…… ooo, don’t know that noise…. mine ‘grunts’ or ‘oinks’ when excited and circles my feet. That’s means she’s happy…. or impatient, for her food! LOL

It depends on the context, but it is generally a sound of excitement.

For my two Flemish babies….7 months old.  A purring like sound when I pet/massage their necks and shoulders.  A groaning sound when I pick them up.  They don’t like to be picked up…no surprise since my previous 11 year old bunny would also groan when I picked her up.

Flemish rabbits are large rabbits and are supposedly docile and calmer than the smaller rabbits.  OK.  Maybe to some extent they are docile, but on the other hand they are big bunnies…very big bunnies…12  pounds at 7 months old. . If they don’t want to be handled, and they really don’t want to be handled, they are very powerful rabbits to deal with!!!  I’ve had some scratches on my forearms and hands just from really innocuous interactions with the rabbits. I’d  guess that most bunny owners don’t realize how powerful their hind feet are.

Oh my god how do you deal with such a big rabbit haha. My rabbits are literally TINY and under 2 lbs but man they can FIGHT AND KICK. One HATES being picked up and if I don’t bunny burrito her, she would go INSANE and give me scratches everywhere. I’ve never heard my bunnies oink but I’ve heard them purr and thump haha
