Babe digs so much I call her “Diggy.” Why does she dig?

Rabbits love to dig. It is a natural instinct for them. Some people get a cardboard box and put shredded paper in it for their rabbits to dig in. I saw an article a few days ago, showing a rectangular tray that had sides a few inches high, filled with plain potting soil for a rabbit to dig in.

My bunny also digs a lot. I have a cardboard hideout with the floor made of that stuff for cats to scratch ( i don’t know the name for it, it’s basically a compressed cardboard with lots of holes for cats to wear down their nails).

My bunny loves it, it’s a lot harder to destroy and it helps her nails to be short, so i don’t have to worry much with her nails.

I also have a box of shredded paper that she uses to dig in. It’s also a good hobby for them, when they’re bored they need something to do

My Yohio digs in fleece blankies on my bed. I fasten one end under the mattress, Yohio energetically pulls at them and digs and it seems very important for him.

Rabbits dig. They’ve not been domesticated for very long, only about 200 years, so they still have lots of wild rabbit behavior in them.
