Podge’s foster mum is retiring from fostering, and now only has a pair of sisters left in her care, and she asked ‘surely someone can give these two a home’.

These two were adopted out by the rescue, then returned last july, cos ‘the kids lost interest’, and so they want to place them in a home they can be confident will keep them, preferably without children or other pets, as they are apparently quite nervous.

The rescue has an adoption fee, to help the rescue cover the cost of inoculating and if needs be spaying or neutering the pets prior to adoption, but like Podge, the girls inoculations will need doing again fairly soon, due to the length of time they’ve all waited to be adopted/readopted. I said I could give them a home if they could waive at least part of the adoption fee and pay for this years jabs for the girls, given I already have Podge’s, Gina’s and Jenny’s to pay for shortly, and they’ve said they can’t make any exceptions to their rules.

So I am very sad tonight. I just hope these two find a home and soon.

Ahhh GJ…. you can’t save the world…. I know it stinks…. especially when you think you have the power to do so…
Can the resuce not take them back from the fosterer…. they are officially still theirs aren’t they?
In any case its hard – I know – I had to decide whether to take an injured dog in after the ‘SPCA’ over here told me they would put him to sleep after a week (ONE WEEK!!) if the owners did not reclaim the dog…. (they have enough dogs to look after without having to pay for the injured ones!!!! Don’t you just love France!)

And I didn’t sleep for a week knowing his life was ‘literally’ in my hands… when the decision came I went to the shelter where he was taken. There were SO many dogs to be rehomed that when I saw him again he just didn’t jump in my heart as he needed to for me to take him. So I didn’t….

However the happy endingto the story is that a colleague who I took with me JUST for moral support fell in love with another dog and took Bounty home….

So don’t feel sad Gina – it WILL turn out OK and if the fosterer reeeeaaaally cares about animals, she won’t dump them just anywhere.

When you have a happy happy ECSTATIC foursome, then you can start looking to add another pair…… OK ? x

I’m not worried she’ll dump them, just sad they will stay in a hutch in a shed when I could give them a home, if the rescue could just be a bit flexible over rules.

How much is the adoption fee then ?

Have you met them ? could they be less nervous in the right hands do you think ?

Would you jump for joy if they turned up on your doorstep tomorrow and added 2 more buns to your family ?

I would love them to turn up, today, tomorrow, or any other day. Better that than being all alone in a shed most of the time.

And given how well we’ve done calming Gina and Jenny, I would be sure they would lose their nervousness, given time. I’m assuming the kids who lost interest maybe scared them a lot?

The adoption fee by itself isn’t the problem, its paying out the adoption fees and still having to pay for their jabs soon. If they don’t re-home them, the rescue will have to pay the jabs anyway. With Gina and Jenny, the RSPCA met me half way, they paid for the girls spays, and I paid for their jabs.

2 options – either you wait for them to have their jabs and get them then….. (seems silly but if its a box that has to be ticked in the stupid administration system….)
Or could you ask to have a staggered payment agreement ?
Or ask to speak to the manager and get them to see sense ?
Or get the rescue person to take the sisters to the RSPCA and then get them from there…
Or get in touch directly with the foster mother and see if she has any influence over the rescue centre, or if she wants to contribute to the cost of handing them over to you….
                  OK – so that’s more than 2 options….

If you want I could call the rescue centre (as an unknown person of course), pretend to want them, try to get a deal about financing (because “WHO would want 2 very nervous bunnies AND have to pay for them, eh ??!! Surely we can work something out ” ) and then pass the dtls over to you to go get ’em !
                  What do you think ?

Sleep on it and see if anything changes tomorrow. We’ll talk again then.

The plus side is they have each other in the hutch for company. Not alone.

I know they have each other, but Podge and the other buns that used to be in the shed with them have now all been rehomed.

I’m on a low and fixed income, with a small amount of savings in a special account for vet bills. I could use this money to get these two girls, and pay this years jabs too, but I have two older guinea pigs, and I’ve not been able to find guinea pig insurance, so I think I need to keep these savings for them, plus the buns insurance has a quite sizeable excess, and I need enough to cover that if needs be, on top of any piggy needs.

I asked the rescue could they help me give the girls a home as it sounded like they were concerned to get them into a suitable home, and when they said no, told them what I could offer stayed open. It could be they are afraid of setting a precedent, and much as I would love to say, OK, I’ll take them anyway, I can’t. I just hope someone else gives these two girls a home.

Oh, GJ. I know exactly how you feel. Buns are SO low on the caring ladder in Kuwait, and I never seem to have enough resources to foster as many as I’d like or to adopt (since Segnor Chewie is so mean to other bunnies). But your reasoning seems very sound to me, and like Vienna said, there’s only so much you can do – and you do more than most as is. *hug*

I think its affecting me so much, as these two girls have been along side Podge all through the winter, and I think at the rescue since last July, before that.

So I feel like I’m letting his friends down

My offer to call them as an outsider (and a decoy), and say how ridiculous it is to have to pay adoption fee (x2!) for two older (?) buns AND then pay for jabs… still stands…

The theory being that they will then come back to you with a better offer, in order to get them homed…. (sneeeaky!)
