I have two bunnies, and the more energetic one (Hazel) seems to thump all the time. I’ve had them for only a week but they seem fine around me, and sometimes hazel will thump when I’m not moving or making any noise at all. This always occurs when shes exercising outside of her pen. Is she signaling danger or discomfort or is there another reason for the thumping?

Not necessarily. She may just want your attention and found this was effective. Bunnies communicate every way but talking, so try to notice what is going on around you both when she does it. You could ignore her and see if she does it more, and if she stops when you finally do notice.

I was just missing how my Sammy used to thump in the night when my dad would try to get up from bed. He wasn,t well, so she would wake me up to go help him.

I have a bunny, named Happy, that thumps when she’s about to do something she knows she isn’t supposed to do. It’s hilarious. She also thumps for a few other reasons, like if I’m in her way, and she wants to jump up on the couch, or if she is trying to get my attention, and she thinks I’m ignoring her. Silly buns.

Bunnies bang for lots of reasons, usually Olly bangs if its going to rain, rabbits do this in he wild to tell their friends something is going on, Olly bangs if someone is at the door and I haven’t heard it, its a different kind of thud, I don’t think if a bunny is in pain they would do it, that would be like us breaking a leg and running about making noise.

Some buns thump when they’re happy even. My Yohio thumps when sth has scared him, some noise that I haven’t even been able to percieve probably. Bam can thump for attention aka treats.

Both my girls thump at the same spot in the living room when they run bunny 500s.

I assume its either due to excitement or else they both think its good practice against the predator that just might one day swoop down from the ceiling. Its strange they both choose the same spot, as they’ve never been out together!

Pippi thumps when he wants to go in the garden.
