I have ten rabbits living in two bonded “families”, but they seem to be teaching each other negative behavior. I really don’t want to separate them again. Is it possible to litter box train them in a group? My oldest was trained before the others came along, but now she’s as bad as them. Will the same techniques that work for training one bunny work for a larger group?

          Welcome Kelleigh : )

Wow, those guys must keep you busy!

Can you tell us more about their set up? Are the family groups set up along side each other? Do you use just one litter box or several?

Were the habits okay in the groups but have deteriorated at some point?

We used to have some members who regularly posted that had groups but not any lately, that I can recall.
Hopefully others will chime in with their own experiences or what they’ve seen done before.

Oh sure! I have two large hutches, one three stories, the other two, both have ramps inside so the bunnies can go up and down as they please. Both hutches have a play yard in front surrounded by a two foot high metal gate.

The larger of the two hutches houses six bunnies, Kerrigan and Tucker, their three girls, and Kerrigan’s does from her last litter. The other four, Eveigh, my oldest, Sophie, a rescue who is about the same age (when she came to us she was supposedly about three and a half, and she was from a neglectful home.), Logan, who father the last two litters, and Nolan, my last baby, who is almost nine months.

They have a total of five boxes, three in the larger hutch yard, and two in the smaller. Th problem is that they think it’s a toy and just dig all of the litter out. I use Yesterday’s News litter, or a Petco paper brand. Their food is separate. I haven’t tried putting the hay in the boxes yet., but I will try that when I go down to feed them this evening.

Sorry, I didn’t see the reply button, but I answered above. I forgot to include that the set-ups are about 6 feet away from each other because Logan and Tucker fight and can’t be close to one another, but everyone else seems content.

I can’t say I really have much advice to give given I’ve never had more than one rabbit at a time, litter training a single bunn is relatively easy, but a whole group at once is a whole new challenge. Are you using bedding in the hutches? Is the missed toileting happening in one main area or in lots of locations?

Where do you keep their hay supply? I got my rabbit to be potty trained by putting her hay in her litter box. So try that to see if it works.
