Yesterday, I got a new rabbit. My grandmother paid, even though I insisted I should.

He’s a lionhead, white with grey ears and a couple of grey spots on his back. He’s 8 weeks old, and we purchased everything the shop owner uses. He gets 1 and 1/2 scoops of food each day (from a small scooper) and a handful of Timothy hay a day, as well as a bit of strawberry.

Apparently every Saturday the woman had him, a little girl came and carried him everywhere all day long. So I’m not sure if that helped him or hurt him.

We named him “Fabio” because his fur is long and pretty… haha…

Anyways, last night I got him set up in his cage and gave him room to run around, I picked him up and he sat on my lap while we watched a movie.

This morning I woke up and went to his cage. I opened it; he didn’t come out. I called his name and clicked my tongue a few times, and he finally came out after a bit of sniffing around. I picked him up once he was away from his cage (he did try to run…) and took him into the living room (he lives in the sun room) to sit with me for a bit. After a while of sniffing and standing, he actually leapt onto my chest… and what’s more, I started feeling his spine to see if he was thin, and he started clicking his teeth! I was definitely surprised. I kept stroking his spine and he kept clicking. He decided to get on my shoulder, hop back to my chest, and lick me. He just completely showered me with licks on my neck and upper chest while laying down. After he did that, he proceeded to groom himself. I pet him a bit more before putting him back into his room.

What I’d like to know is… what’s going on? Rabbits don’t take to people like that, I thought. Wouldn’t licking be a serious display of affection?

I sing to him a lot, also. I love to sing. (:

LOL It sounds like he was having a good morning and was happy.

Take a look at the Bunny Info section when you get a chance – super informative. But for now, just a heads up that a young bun should have unlimited alfalfa pellets and unlimited alfalfa hay and water for the first 6 or so months of his life – then timothy pellets as per weight and unlimited timothy hay with gradual introduction of veg and fruit after the 12th week. The Food tab in the Info section has great detailed lists and advice.

Fabio sounds lovely and I’m glad he’s already shown affection – buns can be so sweet.

The clicking is a chatter, much lick a cat purring, its a sign the rabbit is very comfortable and happy. The licking could be a sign of affection because hes grooming your. He sounds like a very happy little chatter bug, haha
