One of my three buns Mokona just hit bunny puberty really hard. My oldest Kyuu had such a graceful teen period I almost question whether he even went through puberty before getting neutered. Mokona is 13 weeks old and just started spraying 2 days ago. I let him play (supervised) in the same pen as my other young male bun from the same breeder as they get along well. I was in there with them when suddenly I got sprayed by him.. and then AGAIN as I was cleaning up! I thought it could be because I put him in with Plue, so yesterday I decided to give them separate play time, but he still sprayed. What’s going on? Is there any way to avoid or minimize this? He doesn’t seem to be doing it inside his cage. Also, he uses his chin to mark absolutely everything during his play time. I still have 3 months to go before they can be neutered.

Why do you have to wait another 3 months? Is that what your vet recommended? I would hate to wait 3 months while my rabbit was spraying.

To be honest, there’s really not much, if anything you can do to stop him from spraying. He doesn’t need to spray his cage because it’s already his territory, but he has to spray you and other things to constantly get his smell back on them.

The only clinic that offers low cost spay/neuter for rabbits in my area (and when I say my area, I’m still driving out for an hour for this) say they don’t do spay/neuter under 6 months. Of course, they take your word for it, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable lying to them — what if something went wrong due to age.

Well that’s a real pain, don’t they know how annoying a spraying bunny is

Clearly they don’t know my pain.. afraid to hang out with him after I’ve showered in case I need a second shower lol. What age are males usually neutered? He is a nethie lionhead cross.. does size play a role in the risk? He is not as tiny as my pure nethie. I also want to be able to bond him with my other buns.
