        Hi all,

Bramble is approaching the 6 month mark so I will be booking her in for spaying soon.

Is there a certain weight she should be? She currently weighs 800g and I worry that this is still too small. Should I hold off for another few months?

Also, Bramble lives in our second bedroom. She doesn’t have a cage and the room is pretty large. Will she need to be caged post spay or am I better leaving her as she is used to?

So nervous as she’s so tiny and doesn’t ‘talk’ to me for at least a few days after every routine vet visit!

        Thanks in advance!

Not sure about the weight. I believe it’s more an age requirement. I would talk to your vet if you are concerned about her small size.

I recommend keeping her confined after her spay. You could use an xpen or perhaps borrow a dog kennel from someone. It’s not good her for her to run around or hop onto anything, especially the first few days. She will be sleepy and will want a safe, comfy place she can rest and recover.

Wow, she is small! My Angel is around that weight and she’s 3 months old.

I agree with LPT, you should check with your vet about her weight worries, and that it’s best to confine her movements to a smaller area while she’s recovering.

I’ve been looking up about spays recently in preparation for when Angel reaches 6 months, and I read that Nethie females reach sexual maturity earlier, but have to be spayed later (6 months and on wards) due to their size.

Spaying is always such a worry. Have you spoken to your vet and asked if they have a minimum weight limit? My own vet prefers them to be over 1 kg. With regards to her after op care, I wouldn’t cage her unless you have to, make her a nice soft warm cosy space . She needs to be kept warn after the anaesthetic and have food and water right next to her as she probably won’t move around much.
