My name is Brandon, and my Fiance’s name is Ashley. We’ve had bunnies for 3 years now. We live with 2 furry friends, and they are both very unique individuals! First, I will introduce you to my “little” girl, Ruby.
Her grandmother had just finished brushing her, and dolling her up. There’s a TV news network in the area that does a promotion called “Pet Connection.” Ruby came from a loving family who had just had a baby. Their baby was, unfortunately, very allergic to Ruby’s fur. They wanted to find her a loving home, preferably with another bunny for her to be friends with. They found us! We’re not sure of her breed, only that she is is very sassy, thumps loudly when things don’t go exactly her way, but has never tried to hurt us. She has slowly come out of her shell, and finally climbs up in my lap and demands attention on her own now! She tends to like men more than women, and prefers me to my fiance (much to her annoyance!)
Next, Ashley’s best friend (aside from me… Of course she likes me more… I think ) Bugsy!
Bugsy is a Mini-Rex, and we got him from a farm in Upstate New York. He is stuffed animal soft, and probably one of the most friendly creatures I’ve ever encountered. So friendly, in fact, that he doubled as our pet AND an ARC therapy animal for mentally disadvantaged folks when Ash was working for them. He is always calm with people, loves his pets, and needs his toys just-so in his room. We often find his angry-bird stuffed animal standing guard in front of the entrance to his hutch while he sleeps soundly inside. He has such a personality!
Ruby was spayed before she came into our home, so there will be no baby bunnies (though not for lack of trying on Bugsy’s behalf). Ruby actually helped save Bugsy’s life this past weekend when he fell victim to GI stasis. She doesn’t usually dote upon him, but she was licking his ears, and later, his behind. Only after some research did we discover that sometimes bonded rabbits will do this to try to stimulate the GI into action again. He is back to his old happy, zoomy, binky-ing self thanks to a phenomenal veterinarian, and Ruby’s warning that something was wrong. He still has a bit of recovering to do, but his poops look almost normal again, and he is happily chowing down on his hay, greens, and pellets again.
If anyone knows what type of bunny Ruby is, Ashley and I would love to hear from you! We’ve been making guesses for months, and taking suggestions from friends who know as little as we do. Hopefully someone here can help!
Here’s another gratuitous picture of them eating together. Because why not, right?
