I have carers coming everyday to help me wash and get dressed and make breakfast, when the carer is helping me dress Olly gets angry, he tries to get out of his pen by jumping, pulling the pen towards him, jumping on top of his cage and tying to climb out and going mad making a noise, this is only when the carer is dressing me or checking my skin to make sure I have no cuts, bruises or sores,(Just to make sure I’m OK because sometimes I fall) Olly will also throw things about, stamp his foot until they have finished, as some of you know Olly keeps an eye on me, looks at the tablets when it is my tablet time etc, I have stroked him until he is asleep telling him “Good Olly don’t worry about it, its so you can have a playtime, Olly is still number 1 carer.” I know he doesn’t understand what I’m saying, but I don’t understand why he is doing this, maybe it is that he finds it strange someone is helping me, or ‘Someone is touching MY Mummy’ If I was to look at it another way, if someone was touching Olly I’d be wondering what was going on.

        I’m confused.

It sounds like he’s very protective of you. You are his best friend. Buns really can defend their friends. It sounds like that’s what he’s trying to do.

I agree that it sounds like he’s protective. If he was out at the time I wouldn’t be surprised if he ran up and tried to bite your carer’s ankles or feet. I’d say Olly feels some ownership of you and just either wants you for his own or is trying to protect you from the scary lady.

If you wanted to try and stop him from doing it, I might suggest getting the carer to feed him a treat or some greens through the bars when she arrives so that Olly can see she’s not a horrible scary person.
