I noticed jenny put her head down for Gina to groom through the bars a couple of days ago, and with both girls a lot more comfy with being touched, I decided I’d give the two of them a session in the bath tub. I drizzled some warm water over noses and sides to encourage grooming.

Jenny was the calmer of the two, but there was no snarling nor any attempts at nipping.

Pippi is pretty laid back, so I think he would accept Gina as well as Jenny, so I’m focusing on the two girls for now

That’s better….!!! Though the term ‘frozen solid’ comes to mind !! LOL It’s like ‘what am I doing here, if I don’t move, then the tub won’t move either…’
But looking relaxed n each other’s company yes

Jenny was fine, Gina seems quite shell shocked, but she did put her head down briefly as if to invite grooming?

Yes !! Shell shocked is the word ! I’ve no idea what the language is, but it certainly didn’t seem agressive. Keep going !

It looks promising! Gina “ignoring” Jenny. At one time she does seem to demand pets and that makes Jenny freeze up! Do you think Jenny is washing herself to show non-aggression? And then finally Gina lets her groom her on the back and neck.

There’s no fighting at all =) Gina looks like she could explode if Jenny made a wrong move.

This is so cool!!! Keep going!

I’m uming and ahing with the idea of marathon bonding over Easter now. I don’t like Gina being on her own, and they’ll all get more floor space and more free time as a trio. I’ve tried another bath session this morning, and will do another one tonight and see how it goes. How much of my science assignments I can clear before Easter will also be a factor though!

we seem to have total role reversal, with Jenny doing the shell shocked bunny, and Gina confident enough to groom and eat.

Rearranged the dining room to disrupt any territorial issues, prior to getting them to live as a trio. Gina has the kitten tree. She was up to the top before I could even grab the camera…

How funny about the role reversal – exactly 2 same reactions but not with the same buns !!!

Maths would say next time they’ll either be both shell shocked, or both be grooming.

I personally would go for ‘little and often’ and positive sessions rather than one long one…. Go girl !!

Decided to try all three bunnies in a blocked off end of the dining room, taking advantage of rearranging everyone’s territories yesterday.

Jenny got one substantial hair cut, but apart from that, it went very calmly, and I separated them straight after the last photo, leaving Gina in Pippi and Jennys’ new space, and leaving Pippi and Jenny out having floor time, with access to Gina’s new space. Lots of explouring and no aggression bar that one hair bite, which happened about two  minutes before Jenny started washing a half asleep Pippi.

                                Touch wood – looking goooooooood.
Try on different days too as the moon and pmt and hormones and everything can change from one day to next !! LOL….
(My Zouzou, a generally calm bun was like a maniac this morning, running, binkying and charging and grunting….. for no apparent reason !!)
And when you’ve got 5 good days in a row.. I reckon it’s all good !
                                *YAY !!

It’s looking really good, just a little bit of fur flying, no real fighting.
The pictures are great, they really show tentative interaction.

Been sat in with all three needed quite a bit of squirting to keep Gina from nipping Jenny at first, then everybun agreed it was nap time, until just now with an interesting little drama. Gina snuggled into Pippi, who thought a little, then popped out on the excuse he was hungry. A quick graze and he hopped back into the hay box he’d just hopped out of, and snuggled back into Gina! They’ve now been snuggled for almost five minutes

Given that while things went well with Pippi and Gina earlier, I had needed to squirt water at the girls, I decided to give them another session in the bath. After about 20 mins of no bun making the first move, Gina asked Jenny to groom her, and Jenny obliged with a brief groom, then back to distrustful watching for maybe 15 minutes, before finally Gina accepted Jenny’s invite to groom her, giving Jenny a proper ear wash the lasted over five minutes.

Everyone got extra supper pellets for how well they did

I think they deserve banana for this! It’s so cool. Pippin must be the kindest, most patient bunny.

They’ve never had banana, but were quite happy with double supper pellets as a well done treat

Put all three buns in a small pen on a duvet that’s never had a bun on before, to try and get the three together in neutral territory, without me in with them. Gina went towards Pippi and Jenny went mental and they went straight into a hair-pulling boxing match. Squirting worked briefly, but even after I removed Pippi from the pen, they just wanted to fight. Got them separate and calming down for now but not sure what to do next, I don’t want any real injuries, and that means not letting them fight it out?

Gina has been grooming Jenny quite a bit, and I read that sometimes the dominant bunny grooms the subservient bunny ‘to show them how it’s done’, and Jenny just sat back and enjoyed it, with little reciprocation, so that might well have annoyed Gina? Pippi won’t groom her back either, he is too laid back to groom anybun.

Given how badly things went to today, I am thinking of switching to plan B, i.e. adopt another rescue bun as a husbun for Gina. Gina is quite clear she would be happy to bond with Pippi, but its equally clear Jenny won’t share and she won’t groom Gina back as much as Gina thinks she should, neither of which bodes well for a successful bond.

My younger son did one day a week for three months volunteering at an animal rescue about 19 miles (he biked) from here as part of his Duke of Edinburgh award (citizenship award) a couple of years ago, so I thought I’d take a look at their website. They have a boy bun being fostered about two miles from here, and he is coming for a bundate on Wednesday evening.

If they look likely to get on, and the foster mum is happy with our home for this fella, we will complete the paperwork there and then, and he will stay. He was caught lost in the streets last year and has been waiting ever since to get his forever home, so for his sake I hope he and Gina take to each other. I have to say I want them to get on, not only for his and Gina’s sake, but cos I have lost my heart to him. I’m not sure about the rules for posting pics of him before we know if we will be adopting him, but if all goes well no doubt I’ll have lots of pictures before long. The rescue page for him says he might be an English cross, so he might be quite big compared to Gina, he is white with black splodges around both eyes and along his spine, and has cute black ears to match

Looking at his picture, I think there might be lion head in there too. Either that or he had really bad bed head the day they took his pictures

The rescues vet has said he cant be neutered because one testicle is far too deeply embeded in his abdomen, but the lady from the rescue hopes that with Gina spayed it should be ok. I’m guessing that might be why no one has taken him  I just hope that wont mean issues with spraying

The girls are now sat like the fight today never happened, but I am too scared to risk an injury from trying to bond the girls again any time soon.

I’m sorry it’s not going smoothly =( I stopped trying to bond mine due to some serious fighting, during the final attempt, Bam got his eyelids (upper and lower) on one eye bit rather badly (although it luckily healed without stitches). So I can very well understand your reluctance to go on with this project. We have had difficult-to-bond-buns here that after several breaks finally got bonded, Nora’s Pippin and Fili f ex, but you have the additional dynamics of a mènage-à-trois to deal with.

I’m all for you saving another bunny, of course. I doubt a bunny could find a better home. It even comes with a prospective fiancée!

I know I’ve said it before, but those girls are SHINY!

Gina says she hopes that her shine impresses her date but he’d better not appreciate Jenny’s shine

I just hope Gina likes him, as I’d feel awful to send him away, given how long he’s been waiting for a forever home, as I can only take him on as her husbun

update – my youngest son has already chosen a new name for him, so now it really has to work out
