        Hi all

Bramble has allergies that make her eyes red. The vet has ruled out conjunctivitis and blocked tear ducts. She sneezes a lot too, hence the allergies conclusion. I’m not quite sure what causes it but presume it’s dust. She has good days and bad days.

Unfortunately, she is also a very fussy eater. At the moment, all she will eat is animal dreams and it’s quite dusty. I have tried all dee millen sample packs and hay experts samples. She won’t touch them. We recently introduced leafy greens and she has reduced her hay intake more. She turns her nose up at most pellets (apart from the horrible meat rabbits pellets she was on when I got her, which I gradually changed) but loves her greens and this animal dreams timothy hay! Has any one tried dustfreehay.co.uk it looks pretty good so I’m thinking of trying. or any other ideas??

        Thanks everyone!

Have you tried Orchard Hay? Oxbow makes a hay that is popular with buns (it’s what mine eat) and people and buns with allergies have had success with it.

I don’t know if this would work for rabbits, but some horses with hay allergies are fed pelleted hay only. It’s not like rabbit pellets. It’s made for such issues. Maybe there’s a rabbit version. They usually soak the pelleted hay and feed it in a bucket. You could also rinse the actual hay. Just be sure it doesn’t go mouldy.

Now when spring is about to happen you can perhaps pick some fresh grass for her? Pesticide-free of course. Fresh grass has good fiber and is good for the teeth (just ask your local wild buns!) and it’s often considered yummy. And it’s dust free.

Have only ever heard good things about the dust free hay from that company. Another favourite of fussy UK bunnies is Readigrass. HTH

Is there anything else in her living zone that could be irritating her?

How weird is this! I also have a fussy bunny named Bramble whose favourite hay is animal dreams! I get the animal dreams timothy hay from amazon and I haven’t found the actual hay terribly dusty if I am honest but there tends to be dust in the bottom of the packet. I transfer it into a big bin because its so compressed I struggle to get it separated so the dust in the bottom of the packet goes in the bin as soon as I open it. Our other bun Ron is quite sneezy and this seems to help.

I also recently bought redigrass and mix some in with their hay, they seem to like it

                    Thanks for the replies, everyone!

Kirsty, that’s so weird! They must be long lost bunny relations!

I’ve just realized from your post…You say the Animal Dreams is dusty at the bottom of the pack. I use a hay bag so i open up the plastic bag inside the fabric hay bag. I guess sometimes i might put the bottom at the top, so all the dust gets mixed in again? Maybe that was where i was going wrong.

Anyways! I ended up trying the dustfreehay website and mixed in some readigrass. She absolutely loves the stuff! It arrived on the 15th and i changed all her bedding and used only the “dustfreehay” and readigrass. Her eye problems have disappeared completely and her sneezing has stopped! She seems much happier and brighter. I dont know if i would try animal dreams again now her eyes are much better but maybe i’ll experiment in future and ensure the bag is the right way up!

                    Thanks everyone!!
