        Hi

I have a female netherland dwarf, who is about 1year old now. She is a house rabbit, and has run of the house and gets shut away in a room at night. Over the past few days her behaviour has been changing, shes always loved attention but has become extra clingy. I cant actually walk anywhere without her under your feet. This then started to her running around us in circles. Shes has started just going mental running and jumping around everywhere. And she is now constantly making buzzing noises, which iv read means shes happy which if thats the case, great. She has also started thumping alot, which she hasnt done before, and i know she isnt scared when shes doing it so thought maybe that was also to do with excitment? And now she is pooing everywhere all the time, which she has normally always been very good keeping it in her trays. And then just today she has started spraying urine at our feet.

It just seems strange how much and sudden her behaviour has changed in 3-4 days. Is this behaviour all linked? Do you know what could be the reason for all this sudden change? I am wondering possibly hormones??

Is she spayed? Many intact bunnies begin to show these symptoms, caused by hormones, as they reach puberty. Getting a bunny fixed is a godsend for most bunny owners when they are experiencing what you are.
1 year is a bit later than most bunnies start demonstrating hormonal behaviours, but she could just be a late bloomer. I would recommend scheduling an appointment with your vet to talk about your concerns and schedule the spay.

It certainly sounds like hormone-driven behavior! A bunny following you around making noises and spraying you with pee is courting you.
Bunnies can be late bloomers, I have one of those.

Haha, my bunny isn’t neutered and he does the same thing. He nips, too! You might want to spay her. It’ll stop this behavior.

Bunnies always follow their “mate” around. Running around in circles is excitement. Thumping is also excitement. Using the washroom outside of her litter box – if it’s in little piles, then she’s just not litter trained, but if it’s spread out, then she’s marking her territory. Spraying urine is also sort of claiming and becoming excited, trying to mate.

Overall, she probably should be spayed. She could start nipping.
