So I just got my sweet little Bucky yesterday evening. He’s an English Lop, and LARGE, larger than I would have thought, even with being a little underweight. He was a bit of an on-the-spot rescue, and as such, I wasn’t fully prepared to bring him home. Right now he seems okay with his pet-store cage (it’s larger than where he was before, and he’s still so thrilled with having hay and food available that he’s a pretty happy boy) but I’m very aware that it’s way too small. I’m trying to figure out what would be the best build for him. I’ve seen some NIC cubes, dog crates, rabbit rooms, custom builds, etc. but if anyone would like to share what build has worked for them and their large bun, I’d really appreciate it. (Pics are appreciated too!) Keep in mind, a bunny room is not a feasible option – right now he has to stay in my bedroom, which doesn’t have much space left, so dual-purpose cages are awesome. (I was considering building a bench seat with a bunny cage built in, and maybe putting an x-pen around the entrance/exit to the cage…? What dimensions to the bench would I need?)

By large do you mean Giant bunny or just very big?
Xpens are good but if he is a Giant he may push it over if he wants and get out.

Unless he is a mix, I don’t think English lops are really giant, but they are pretty big. I think an X-pen would be a good idea, like a sturdy metal one that is used for medium/large dogs? Then of course out of cage time cause even the x-pens aren’t big enough to stay in all of the time.
I used to keep my bunny (shes a dwarf though) in a large or medium (can’t remember) dog crate. But now I have an Xpen attached to the crate like an extension so I leave the crate door open all the time.

If space is an issue have you considered lofting your and putting the bunny cage under that?

I’m thinking Giant = flemish giant, continental giant bunnies…?
