Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone in the Boston area would want to meet up for a Bunny style Happy Hour?
Not sure if this already exists, but I’m imagining a rabbit play date where the adults get to have some drinks and meet new people.

        About our rabbit:

Jack is a minilop, about 3 years old. He’s neutered and also deaf. He’s the friendliest rabbit I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing, and loves new people and other rabbits.

        About us:

We’re a couple in our late 20’s and new to the Boston area. We too like meeting new people, especially if they are rabbit-minded people. Would be willing to host at our apartment. Could also work towards setting up a mutual rabbit-sitting network of sorts for trading off on weekends/vacations.

          Welcome!!

I’m far from you-but a cool idea to meet local rabbit owners and possibly trade rabbit sitting!

Hi, the Bunny style happy hour sounds great but I’m in the UK in England and I don’t like flying, put it this way, Air stewardesses are glad when I get off the plane.
            Good Luck.

FYI: for anyone seeing the OP’s name change and wondering what was up with that –  Our site accidentally allowed a duplicate name of another known member, so I temporarily changed it to JRrabbit, until I contacted our new member to ask what name they prefer — which ended up being PB&J.

PB&J — Welcome!  Sounds like a fun idea.  I’d do that if I lived there.  A bunny play-date is not uncommon around here (Northern CA), but normally through something like meetup.com. Here is a good example –http://www.meetup.com/Bunny-Playdates/    You may find people to be a bit more cautious to share info to meet up via our forum/or message center,(which they should be) as it’s not considered the most safe way to connect.   Especially since we are from all different age groups here.  What might be a good idea instead is to start up a meetup group, like through meetup.com, and then post the link to it.  I love using meetup.com — it’s a great way to find fun gatherings for great activities, anything from crafting, animal rescues to exercise!   Check it out!

I’ve wondered… what happens when you put all those bunnies in a room together? Don’t they attack each other? I don’t know much about it, so sorry if it’s a dumb question, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask.

Love4Bunny, that is a good question.

I can imagine PB&J’s bunny may feel a little territorial — so it would likely be best if PB&J found a neutral location so that their own bunny doesn’t feel the invasion. Also even if the host bunny is passive, it may lead to marking the house later to reestablish it as their territory.

Here is example of a neutral location of a “Hoppy Hour” — much larger meet-up of course. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkI_42ybDEg You can see the bunnies are much too distracted and just figuring things out to be concerned about being aggressive.

When I have taken my own bunny to events at HRS, everyone’s bunnies are out of their element and usually don’t show signs of aggression. Of course you would have to do it at your own risk as there are no guarantees, but for the most part, as long as the meet-up location is neutral, then the “host’s” bunnies should not be on the attack or feel threatened. Plus a neutral location for a meet-up with “human” strangers probably is the best anyway.

Wow, they were just all going about their business in neutral territory. Thanks for the info., BB. That white Hotot-looking rabbit is so cute, zooming back and forth on a mission.

                        Hi, PB&J,
Glad to hear the issues with your Member name has finally been settled. For those who are confused, there was an overlap of names that BB had to fix, so our nice new members finally settled on the very cute name of PB&J! Great choice, btw.

Here on BB we are concerned about the safety of online interactions for our members, so we don’t give out members’ real names, addresses or locations.
That said, many of us have become friends, either in person or online. (I boast of bunny buddies in Alaska and Australia, as well as the rest of the alphabet.)

I’ve lived in Boston, and moved a lot with my bunnies, so I understand where you’re coming from. What I’d suggest is trying one of several options:
                        * Go with BB’s suggestion of starting a separate Meetup on Meetup dot com, calling all bunny owners. (Most risk of stranger danger)
                        * Get to know some of us here on BB, and ask anyone who lives in your area to PM you (Personal Message – you have an Inbox here you know) to get to know each other and make plans if you want to privately, or
                        * Go to a local shelter that rescues bunnies and do a bit of volunteer work there to get to know other animal lovers.

My third suggestion is based on my recent experience of going to a shelter here in FL where a couple worked with me to pick out Spike. They volunteered there, and now are at a different shelter closer to their home. I know this because they ran into me in a fresh market when we were all shopping for our greens! We had a nice chat, caught up on my bunny’s progress, and plan to see each other again in May at a local BunFest! So it was nice.

And, if I were in Boston, I would meet my humans at TGIF on Newbury St. for lunch. The bunnies won’t want to meet each other particularly, but a lunch full of bunny talk in a public restaurant (TGIF started in that location I believe) is fun for you, and fun for the bored diners at the next table who eavesdrop.

Hope these suggestions help. We’re glad you’re here online with us, no matter what.
