Does anybody know of any big hidey houses that are bunny safe for a large rabbit? (And preferably not super expensive!)

Moxie is 9 pounds (4.08 kg) and has LONG fur (angora) so it makes her even larger. I have issues with finding stuff big enough for her. Any suggestions on any bunny safe hidey houses? Thanks in advance!

Would you be able to build one? I also saw a couple of end tables at ikea that could probably be made into a hidey house (they were made out of untreated pine). We also get really big boxes from our grocery store. They have really thick cardboard for some of them and some of them are quite large.

My only concern with making them myself would be using wood that isn’t safe, or it might be treated.

You can look up safe woods to use, and usually you can ask if it’s treated or not at lumber places, or it says on the tags. And if you go to a place where they’ll cut lumber for you for a price, all you’ll need is a few nails and/or screws. (Or, you can drill holes and use wooden dowels, and pound the pieces together, for extra safety in case they chew through to the screws/nails, but if you have thick enough wood, it shouldn’t be a problem.) I would look on etsy though if you don’t want to/can’t do it yourself, there’s some great things there, just watch the shipping. (Search for “Rabbit house” or “rabbit castle” and switch to the pet supplies section. Don’t search “Rabbit hide” I unfortunately made that mistake my first time.)

Most untreated pine at hardware stores is going to be kiln dried which makes it perfectly safe to use. Otherwise, just use a cardboard box

I’d highly suggest a cat/plastic dog travel crate assembled with the door removed. Mine always liked it and it made traveling easier because it was easier to get her int her crate when it was time to go. Plus they have good ventilation while still offering privacy. Something like this is what I have:

Hey, I ordered a cat kennel from ebay which is on the expensive side but the quality is fantastic. Trying to teach Bramble to use the cat flap now but there is a little door! Here is a similar one but it’s not the same seller as mine so cant vouch for it. Mine was slightly cheaper so definitely worth a look around. Depending on where you are theres aplace in Northampton and Leeds that do them much cheaper if you collect.
