A set of 64 grids will be at my house monday and once they get here I will start building Harlows 2 story cage.
I’m aiming for a 4×4 cage but it might have to be a 3×4 cage. it all depends on how well the grids fit into the corner she has now.

I’ve been reading a bunch of things online about the cages and i’ve put well over 130 dollars into getting her items for the switch like a real litter box, four different things of fleece (she hasn’t started her potty training yet so i’m going to be doing a lot of washing)
The grids themselves (people said they were cheap but they were wrong lol)
        A nice hay rack.
i even got a handheld vacuum because i have hay and bedding ALL over my floor all the time.

i was wondering if you guys had any suggestions of things that you found have worked really well and maybe things that didnt work so well for you.
i’ve read a billion things on building the cages, watched all the videos, but i guess it’s sort of different when the cage has been used for a while.
i’m using a LOT of zip ties for the cage, but i’m worried about the second floor not staying flat and maybe dipping down in the middle. . Should i support the middle somehow? Maybe with another grid? will the zip ties prevent this if they’re on tight enough?

Hello there, my grid cage wasn’t cheap either, grids are expensive here and I used sheets of plywood for both levels as well as vinyl flooring so the cost quickly added up.

The only issue I have had with my cage is the roof sagging a little (because I have a 3 grid long door on it) But this would be easily prevented if there wasn’t a door or you can put a support beam across (I didn’t want to). It never bothered me because it never caused issues, and I plan to upgrade the second level to 2 grids high as well. My second floor doesn’t really dip, I have grids and a wooden beam under the plywood shelf, but the plywood largely seems to hold itself in place and the supporting grids don’t touch it in several places but they and the beam are there if needed/just in case.

To spare you the details of how I built Bandit’s cage, I’ll link you to the thread I have on another forum where I posted photos outlining the different steps of building it. It starts a few posts down this page: http://www.rabbitsonline.net/showthread.php?t=73547&page=39

I built a cage for my first bun Lola when we first got her too. We used it probably about a year before I decided to do something else. Lola was almost 2 when we got her and wasn’t spayed and the person we got her from just let her run all over the house and she peed wherever she wanted. By the time I got her and had her spayed (which took longer than it should have due to an inexperienced vet combined with an inexperienced owner and some wonky liver levels), she had formed a bad habit. I got her to stop peeing all over the house but she still pees in the cage. She was fine for a few months but then she started peeing out the sides of the cage on ALL the levels so it got EVERYWHERE! I ended up buying a sheet of plywood and putting a couple xpens together. Some peel and stick tiles and some baseboard around the edge and we are good. Anyway….to answer your question lol I used dowel rods I got at the hardware store to hole the platforms up. We just cut them the size we needed and zip tied them to the grids. We made our platforms out of plywood too and just placed it on top of the dowel rods.
