Hello Everyone, This is my first time using a forum… Hopefully this helps.  My bunny just lost her sole mate about a week ago.  She is eating drinking and playing doing very well.  I am unsure if I am going to bond her again.  I wanted everyone’s opinion.  She is sociable with us but has been doing a lot of hiding and running from us.  I need some advice on weather bonding her would be a good choice or not.

        Thanks,

        Carrie

I’m sorry about the loss of your rabbit. Some rabbits seem to do fine as the sole rabbit in the house, especially if they get a lot of time with their people and if they are people oriented. But, rabbits do love to be with their own kind. Give it a little time and see how your rabbit is doing. Hopefully, the hiding and running away will stop, but if not, that might be a good indicator that she would feel more comfortable and happy with another rabbit companion. There are a lot of rabbits in rescues and shelters waiting for a home. Most, if not all of the rabbits in rescues will already be spayed or neutered, and some allow you to bring in your rabbit and help you find a rabbit companion that is most compatible.

I’m sorry about your rabbit. Bonding is a lot of work and is likely to be stressful but is worth it in the end when you have two well bonded rabbits. If you feel she is lonely then by all means look into another bond mate for her, but if you are spending lots of time with her and she seems happy, she doesn’t technically need another bunny buddy.

Maybe get her a bunny stuffed animal like the ones the house rabbit society sell and see how she reacts, or take her to a shelter to see if she bonds with any bunnies there.
