My holland lop Julep started her first molt with me a few weeks ago. I adopted her from the spca in November so who knows how many molts she’s gone through before! For a while the fur was coming out in tufts that I was able to pull out by hand. I was brushing her every day so she wouldn’t ingest too much fur. However about a week ago she pretty much stopped with the molt. She was shedding normally but has a ridiculous fur shape now with her long old coat and short new coat. Is it normal for bunnies to stop molting before they lose their whole coat? She also started from the butt to the front instead of the normal front to back. I am still brushing her regularly but should I be prepared for another round of crazy amounts of fur coming out to finish the molt?

It’s not uncommon for rabbits to have funny fur patterns from not molting out properly. I’m not sure why it happens but there’s nothing wrong, I would expect the rest of it to fall out with another molt which may happen as soon as a months time. Bandit was a big molter, he would shed for about 6 weeks with only about a week or two break in between. Most of it was light shedding but there would always be about 2 weeks of very heavy shedding. I’ve never had a pet that shed so much fur in my entire life!! It seems to be a bunny thing

Yep, nothing much to add to what Azerane has already said. Bunnies can shed in mysterious ways. And one molt doesn’t have to be at all like the next molt in the same bun. I don’t know why this is so.
